Question about 2002 GMC Envoy
Is the check engine light on? Does the vehicle seem like it's bucking and jerking under a load? I am suspecting a restricted or plugged catalytic converter. You can check for this with a vacuum guage. Connect to a vacuum hose and have someone inside the vehicle hold the brakes and put it in gear give it some gas and watch the guage. If the vacuum severely drops off then you can suspect a restriction in the converter. The more load that is on the vehicle such as ac on or in 4wd the worse it will feel. Any additional info you can provide would be most helpful. Note how much vacuum the guage has idling then what it has under a load.

If there is a grease fitting on the drive shaft slip yoke, then grease
it. Else pull it out and pack it with a good grease. That's the
cheapest easiest thing to try. Sometimes that can cause the problem
you're describing but that's typically when you start and or stop moving
in the vehicle, not just when it's put in gear.
