Question about 2004 Mercedes-Benz C-Class

1 Answer

My C230 Mercedes has check engine light on. Car checked and the following codes were found: P0171 system too lean, P0300 random/multiple cylinder misfire, P0301, 302, 303, 304- meaning cylinders 1 - 4 are misfiring

ours is a 2006 and we had the same issue and codes, it ended up being the timing chain, and the camshaft position sensor and the mass air flow sensor. pay the $109 for the Mercedes diagnostic, and go from there, In a mercedes everything works together and depends on each other so much that any one miniscule thing can cause it to throw numerous codes. Its best to let Mercedes do the diagnostic so you know exactly what is the issue, and it seem when anything is replaced or fixed on the engine it requires reprogramming the engines electronics to all work properly. I would highly advise taking it to the Benz house or a shop that is ASE Certified to work on foreign cars, and has a tech that is specifically trained on Mercedes, because if not they will treat it like a chevy and you'll be burning money because things might get replaced but until its taken into the shop and reprogrammed the check engine light will remain or you can get it reset, but you car will not be running to its true potential because everything has to be synced to work together.

P0171 indicates a lean condition. The most common cause of this is a defective mass air flow sensor. Also check if any vacuum leaks.Replace MAf sensor,if cleaning the MAF does not help.
Thanks.

I have 2 codes p0300 and p0171

code p0300 refers to random/multiple misfires--misfire detected===causes--spark plug/sHT leads--injectors--ignition coil/s---low compression---wiring
code p0171 refers to system too lean, bvank 1===causes--intake/exhaust leak--AIR system--fuel pressure/pump---MAF/VAF sensors---injectors---HO2S sensor
The common thread is fuel so have a pressure test done on the fuel system to check for pump and / or faulty pressure regulator, then progress to injectors.

What is code p0101/p0300/p0171

code p0101 refers to MAF sensor and VAF sensor--range /performance problems===causes --intake leakage/blockage ---MAF/VAF sensor failure.

code p0300 refers to random misfires multiple cylinders ---causes --spark plugs /HT leads --injector /s-- ignition coil/ s--low compression ---wiring

check fuel pressure in manifold and HT leads

code p0171 refers to system too lean bank 1 ===causes --intake /exhaust air leak---AIR system---MAF/VAF sensors ---fuel pressure /pump---injectors ---HO2S sensor

Basically there are two codes referring to the MAF/VAF sensors so check them out and two codes referring to fuel pressure and pump so have a pressure test done on the fuel manifold to determine if pump or pressure regulator.

System to lean bank, manufacturer control fuel air metering, cylinder misfire detected

Intake or vacum leak will be the first codes 174,171, try idle and spray propane around intake if car idles up, then intake is leaking, otherwise could be a broken vacum line, check with a gauge

Multiple engine codes 2002 tribute. p0171, p0174, p0300, p1401

I doubt it.
Codes 171 and 174 are for lean fuel mixtures, 300 is for random missfires which could be fuel or ignition related, and 1401 is for a problem with the EGR valve system. Now the EGR could cause the other codes if the valve is open or leaking when it should be closed.
The EGR valve and sensor would need to be tested first.

06 c230 sports mercedes code p0300, p0301, p0304

I think this is a Coil problem. try replacing coil. If not, it is a MAF problem. 06 wire should still be fine now.

2003 Ford Ranger 4x4 extended cab- diagnostics checked and got these codes- P0171, P0174, P0300, P0316. Can you tell me what they mean?

P0171------ system too lean bank#1
Po174------ system too lean bank#2
For these 2 codes, try cleaning the maf sensor (mass air flow), that is mounted in the big black hose that goes from the air filter housing to the throttle plate, if it is dirty, that will cause those 02 sensors to send a signal to the computor to lean the air fuel mixture. If cleaning it doesn't work, the sensors will probably need changing.
P0300---- Random/multiple cylinder misfire
P0316---- Cylinder misfire at start up---- first 100 revolutions.
On those 2 codes, you have to do some testing to find out why there is a misfire.
Possible causes:
dirty/malfunctioning injectors
weak coil pack
fowling spark plugs/wires
Low fuel pressure

I could be wrong but it sounds like you need to put some attention towards the cat and the O2 sensors.

P0171 System too Lean (Bank 1)
P0300 Random/Multiple Cylinder Misfire Detected
check for vacuum leaks
check fuel for contamination or water
check fuel pressure
the other 2 codes could be related to these 2 codes and are manufacturer specific codes

2000 CIVIC System too lean Cylinder 3 and 4 misfire Deteced

  1. P0171: This means that the oxygen sensor has detected a lean air-fuel ratio. This can be caused due to a vaccuum leak or a problem in the HO2S circuit or the HO2S (Heated Oxygen Sensor) itself. (Bank one Sensor one). This is commonly located along the exhaust pipe. It could also be a bad Mass Air Flow sensor or a bad Engine Coolant Temperature sensor. Diagnostic checks will be needed to be carried out to be verified though
  2. Well as for the other codes, it means #3&4 cylinders are misfiring. It is a possibility that the P0171 code mite have caused the others to show up. I can be wrong though. But it is a strong possibility. If the air fuel mixtue is too lean indeed, mis-firing will occur, unless it is an actual electronic and not a mechnical problem. By the way, when these codes appear, how is the engine's performance. Does it remain the same or behaves poorly?
