My 2001 Ford Escape will crank and start after about 4-5 seconds of cranking instead of the normal 2 seconds.

Try replacing the cold starting valve. Also, it would save the battery and starter by cranking a couple of turns then stop. Wait a few seconds giving the fuel time to run into the engine and crank again. It should fire right up. Count to ten.

2003 Ford Expedition is hard to start. I takes two to four turns of the key to get the engine to fire.

Could be fuel pressure loss.
The fuel pump is supposed to hold pressure when the engine stops.
If it falls to zero, you would have to cycle the fuel pump relay a few times to get it back up to start.
I would check the fuel pressure first.

Most of your discription would indicate a bad starter,
if your talking about the engine turning over or cranking

Some people call a no start or no ignition, a not cranking
situation, which is a wrong statement.

You may have a bad fuel pump, if the motor turns
over but won't start.

I need to know the ignition timing for a big block 460 ford also do the cylinders fire straight down or do they go from one side to the other of the engine

Your cylinders 1-4 passenger side,5-8 drivers side. Firing order is 15426378, looking at engine #1 is at 1 o'clock position, and order goes counter clockwise. The timing varies from year to year - call Ford w/your eng. # for exact timing. To get you in the ballpark,12 degrees BTDc if you have a vac guage, connect to a vac source on intake, crank motor up turn distributor until you get highest vac reading, then back off 3 lbs of vac.

Firing order on a 1990 f150 302

The rotor turns counterclockwise and the order depends on if you have an engine with a roller cam or a flat tappet cam. If it is a flat tappet cam, it is 1-5-4-2-6-3-7-8. If you have a roller cam, it is 1-3-7-2-6-5-4-8. You will either have an H.O. motor or not. H.O. is roller motor. You will also see the firing order etched into the intake manifold.
