I have a 2001 celica it has been a good car with little to no problems. However I just had a radiator put on it several weeks ago that cost me 550.00. Now my check engine light is on and while sitting

Let's explore the radiator, first. Did the Chk eng. lite come on the very first time you drove, after installation? Does the lite stay on right from start? Is the temp guage indicating where it did before the new rad?

Coolant leak 2006 pontiac grand prix

These engines like the 3.8 usually have a intake leaking problem. Also the have plastic elbows on the passengers side of intake that go to heater hoses can leak also. Is it a 3.8 liter engine in your car. And where abouts does the fluid look like its coming from.

SOUND LIKE COOLANT FANS HAS A FAULTY THERMO SWITCH LOCATED AT THE BOTTOM OF THE RADIATOR ON LEFT HAND SIDE.CHECK THE FUSES 8 IN THE ENGINE COMPARTMENT AND CHECK FUSE 16 IN THE PASSENGER COMPARTMENT FUSE BOX.WHEN ENGINE OVERHEATING IF BOTH COOLING FANS WORKING.OVERHEATING PROBLEM COULD BE BLOWN HEAD GASKET.CHECK ENGINE OIL LOOKS LIKE MILK HEAD GASKET LEAKING.SEE WHEN YOU DRIVING LOW AND HIGH SPEEDS THE COOLING FANS SUPPOSE TO BE RUNNING.IF THEY NOT RUNNING THAT IS YOUR OVER HEATING PROBLEM.

Over heating. Radiator = 1 yr old. Head rebuilt

Try replacing the thermostat first. If it's new with the head job then try removing it altogether and see if that helps. New ones can go bad. Make sure it is installed with the coil down in the engine.
Is there any chance that silicone or form-a-gasket was used in the rebuild especially around a water jacket? Silicone can break off after the part is tightened and could be plugging a water passage.
When you redid the head was there a choice of more than one head gasket and did you compare the new with the old to be sure it was an exact duplicate? I would be extremely suspicious of either the wro ng head gasket or it being up side down.Either of these could block water passages and create your problem. Hope this helps.

The best check is fill the radiator with water when the engine is running and see if the water blows out the top of the rad. it it does then you have cylinder head problem's if not a new rad. will sort it. Cheers

Car Overheated - Won't Start

So, all we have to really diagnose the problem is that the car has overheated and it won't start even though there is a good battery in place and plenty of gas. I'm not there in person, so I'd rely on this handy, diagnostic article on this issue of yours, which clearly specifies the probable causes of this overheating; just go down the list to see if they apply to you: lack of radiator maintenance, faulty radiator overall, radiator tubes clogged, faulty fan, faulty water pump belt, faulty thermostat, leaking hoses, faulty exhaust system, or AC / radiator fins are damaged/misaligned. Check the article out for a better explanation:

THis should help solve your problem!
