your engine could have a build up of sludge from rust that could be causing a blockage internally in the engine and i have found out the radiators only have small channels so they block easily as well

I have an 03 vw passat 2.8 4 motion. It keeps overheating! I checked the core and nothing wrong. Changed the thermostat and it still over heats. Now I'm told it might be the water pump. Its fine when I'm...

The water pump is a possibility. It could also be a head gasket leak into the water jacket. At idle the pressure may not be enough to overheat the engine, but acceleration would cause rapid overheating.

Overheating problem

overheating sound like faulty thermostat.thermostat either sticking close or could have blown headgasket if you see a lot of white smoke coming out of exhaust.if headgasket is leaking check engine oil should look milky.also check water pump look around weep hole or see coolant leaking around water pump replace water pump.also check water pump drive belt.make sure drive belt not loose slipping.

1988 b2200 is overheating--we've changed out the lower radiator hose, thermostat, and the upper hose is fine. Why is it overheating? Radiator, heat pump, or water pump?

!st check and make sure the water is flowing in the radiator, then check
the timeing, Mazda will run hot if the timeing is rong.

Chanses are you got an air pocket in the system, there should be a bleeder on top of thermostat housing to bleed off the air, also might be one by the water pump. Its a common problem on them cars after you have drained the coolant to do thermostat or waterpump. Just bleed off the air and you should be good to go.
