Most likely, it's a short to ground somewhere in the circuit. Potentially, the power wire for the fuel pump is finding a path to ground before the load (fuel pump) which then pulls too much current and causes the fuse to pop.
To be honest, more info like year and engine would be helpful. Then I can look up all the loads that are on the circuit and potentially point you in the right direction. If this is a duel fuel vehicle and you are having problems with one fuel then run on the other fuel until you can get to an accredited shop that handles both fuels.
What ever was blowing the fuse intermittently now has a full blow dead short. Trace it through to the unit and check for connections shorting out or the unit itself shorting out.
I'm surprised you didn't get an error code, mainly on the spark plug wires. I would try those, they can cause a bunch of trouble, including rough idle, rich burning, everytime my Grand Marquis acted up, it was the spark plug wires. Of course it was also the only thing not covered in the warranty. Check it out.
