Did your factory key have a little black thing on the blade with a wire on each side? I believe you have the PassLock II factory anti-theft system, as this was standard on all models. You cannot use a WALMART key to start the car. You need a factory key with the right resistor in it. Your dealer can look up the resistance you need from the VIN on the car. Some locksmiths may also be able to do this. Get a blank key with the right resistor and have them cut it to match your WALMART key.

How can I by pass the pass key code on my 99 pontiac montana

If you try to use a blank key chip in a vehicle that is meant to use a key with a chip installed, the chances are excellent that your vehicle will not start. The computer chip in the key mates with a piece of program code in your car's computer system. When the two halves are there, your Pontiac will start easily, however, if you attempt to bypass the coded key, your van won't start. For most drivers, this is not an issue, unless an ignition key is lost. If you lose the key you will have to replace it with a matching one which will prove expensive. It can cost up to $85 or more to replace this type of key in some cars because the key has to be encoded to work with your van. Unless you know someone with a blank spare for the same vehicle who will give the key to you, as well as someone who can program the key, then you will have to pay the freight on a new key and encoding. I programed the montana key and now the van is dead

Call a auto electrician ,you need the key number (dealer only) to reset the system and the right software although some vehicles like the ford escort can be done the way you said but only up untill about 2002 then its dealer only software although some software is now available but i just paid a 1000 euros for mine

2000 Pontiac Montana wont start, no power to vehicle

I suspect an ignition switch problem, you need to check to see if when you try to start it if there is power to the signal wire at the starter. If there isn't, check the same wire at the ignition switch, if there still is no power, check to make sure the grounds from the firewall are secure and they have near zero resistance between the firewall and the negative battery post. Check to make sure there is power getting to the ignition switch, if there is none, then you have a broken fusible link under the hood

2003 Montana Remote & Key Programming Help ..

Ignition keys relearn takes about 30 min to do. 30-Minute Learn Procedure 1. Turn ON the ignition, with the engine OFF. 2. Attempt to start the engine, then release the key to ON; the vehicle will not start. 3. Observe the SECURITY tell tale light. After approximately 10 minutes, the light will turn OFF. 4. Turn OFF the ignition switch, and wait 5 seconds. 5. Repeat steps 1 through 4 - two more times - for a total of 3 cycles of 10 minutes. 3x10 = 30 minutes. The vehicle is now ready to relearn the Passlock Sensor Data Code and/or passwords on the next ignition switch turn from OFF to CRANK Important: Turn the Ignition Switch OFF. The vehicle learns the Passlock Sensor Data Code and/or password on the next ignition switch transition from OFF to CRANK. You must turn the ignition OFF before attempting to start the vehicle. 6. Start the engine. The vehicle has now learned the Passlock Sensor Data Code and/or password. 7. With a scan tool, clear any DTCs if needed. History DTCs will self clear after 100 ignition cycles. Without a scan tool you may have momentary starter interruptions while history clears itself.
