I had similar sounds on my 2003 - turned out to be cracked exhaust manifold making ticking sound. $1250.00 later - no more ticking.

Montero Sports have a self adjusting lifters mechanism that will stop the ticking whenever the enging timming is accurate and a tune-up is performed. First , Did you have changed the timming belt recently? If so, Second, Montero Sport requires a complete tune-up (spark plugs and wires change) every 5 years or 100K . This will allow the lifters to charge correctly and
stop the ticking noise. You can also switch to syntetic oil and add "Reslone" (oil additive) to the oil to quiet the engine noises

My mechanic told me that I would have to replace my engine due to tapping sound and oil light coming on. My brother said it sounds like the lifters are stuck. We added Marvel Mystery oil and ran the car...

Unfortantly if there is internal damage you will have to replace the engine or have it rebuilt. If the oil light is on then your oil pump may be fualty, replacing the pump may fix your problem, remember if theres considerable engine damage it will need to be rebuilt or replaced. Hope this helps.

I have a 98 chevy venture and it sounds like it is knocking on the drivers side under the hood. But the knock stops as soon as you hit 50. Before you hit 50 it get louder. Can you tell me what it is?

if it is a little tapping then it is a lifter that is trying to leak down overnight , as you were suspecting, the only way to fix it is to replace them but they are roller lifters and are expensive to replace, you can try some Lucas oil additive on the next oil change, put a quality 10w40 oil and 1 whole quart of Lucas engine oil additive and if it is caused by varnish build up the lucas will solve the issue, if is a worn seal it will help it, but it has collapsed internally ,nothing will help it but a new lifter. But it is worth a try sinc ethe Lucas is less than $8.00 a bottle, just remember that this stuff is very thick , so the engine needs to be warm and running when it is added to correctly blend with the oil ,and do its job correctly. do not add the Lucas without draining out a quart as it will overfill the engine oil

Recently bought a 2003 Chevy Malibu. Great car. A couple of days ago it started making a "chirping" sound when in the car and more of a light click when you're outside. It's under the hood but couldn't...

well the chirp sounds like a belt problem but the light click is usualy the lifters try using a higher grade of gas,and hope its not a berring going in the water pump.

MY 2000 Montero Sport has a loud knocking when i Start it UP ESPECIALLY WHEN ITS COLD IT GOES AWAY AFTER IT WARMS UP

Sounds like a hydralic lifter issue. These lifters operate the cylinder valves and run off oil pressure. When the engine is cold and the oil is thick worn lifters tend to rattle. When the engine warms up, everything expands and the lifters stop rattling. There is no easy cure for this except replacing the lifters. Sorry....

Can a 2004 endeavor use 2003 montero lifters

I looked this up and got that a 2004 endeavor has a 3.8l and the 2003 montero has the 3.5l engine. the oil filters have different part numbers for each engine.

2003 Mitsubishi Montero (full-size) check engine light is on, the engine sounds like it knocks as I accellerate and the shift diff. lights blink after driving 25 or 30 miles.

The engine is probably making a knocking sound because the oil needs to be changed or replaced. The check engine light is indicating that you will need regular dealership servicing soon, however you can still drive the vehicle but depending on mileage it will determine what services are required.
