The alternator provides all electricity to all the electrical functions while the vehicle is running, if the alternator is failing and not producing enough power to sustain the needs of the motor it will stall, also if the alternator if failing the lights will dim when you use any other electrical items in the car

Where would I put the light bulb or fuse for the speedometer and the radio they are both dim

THis is not a fuse or a bulb problem. IF you have normal lights in some spots and dim lights in other places, it is usually a sign of a bad connection in or under the dashboard. It can be a real problem finding the issue. There are electrical connection points called buses. They have multiple wires connected to them and they come loose or get corroded.

My 87 samurai runs great during the day at night when i have to have the lights on i notice the interior dash lights are really dim. when i come to a stop sign or light the car will turn off. i have to...

There are a lot of variables here. I don't know anything about your car except your described problem. But first off guess, (That is what this is), you have a dying battery. it isn't storing enough electric to run your car at low idle, when you have little charge from altenator & lights, heat etc. are heavy load items. You may also have a failing charging system. Most local parts store will test your battery & charging system for free, in the hope of selling the parts to fix it. You don't have to buy from them, but if they are nice enough to test it for you, you should at least consider them. The last possible, which should have been your first check, is your altenator belt tight?

No dash lights when headlights are turned on. Everything works fine on my vehicle EXCEPT today the panel lights don't work. Turn signals, hazard blinker, oil gauge, rpm gauge, speedometer, drive shift...

there is a regulator for the display brightness, you may have it turn'd down or it has stopped working;. it controls the brightness at which the dash lights are. usually has a speedo sign on it. goes up and down. it works with the main light and is conecter to them on the same lighting board if it has gone then a new light swtch control switch will be needed.

Rough idle, staling, backfiring

You are going to need to do some testing to find this...first thing I'd look at is to check for any intake or vacuum line leaks, then check map sensor and tps. I can only offer a good guess, as I too would need to do testing before offering anything better. You can get test info in most inexpensive manuals.
