Question about Chevrolet C1500

1 Answer

My 89 Chevy C1500 just died while I was driving it. Coasted to a safe spot, and after countless tries seems like it's just not getting fuel to the engine. My question is: Where is the fuel pump located? I know that if it's in the gas tank, that's a major cost/repair. Thanks in advance, K

It is in the tank. Spray some carburetor spray into the throttle body. Then try to start if momentarily starts then suspect fuel pump and or fuel pump relay. Sometimes the hose inside the tank that is connected to the fuel pump is rotted away and jsut dumping fuel back into the tank. In order to fix fuel pump and or hose must remove tank. I suggest just lifting the bed at and angle to squeeze in just enough to pull the pump out. Tank is on drivers side.

89 chevy cavalier engine starts but dies a second later, fuel pressure seems good.

Just because the fuel PSI "seems" good you have to be sure you are getting the right air intake & proper spark & the right times Along with cooling system readings etc. Start with PROPER AIR INTAKE, PROPER FUEL INTAKE AND PROPER SPARK. Sounds like air & gas mixture from here. Good luck Frank M

89 chevy 3/4 ton. 2wd. 454. AT. truck runs good

check your timing, check that your ignition pick up coil is good. also check your fuel pressure. and check for any vacuum leaks. double check your coolant temp sensor to the ecm it tells the ecm what temp it is and the ecm adjusts the fuel amount accordingly.

I was driving and went to turn and the car cut off. I coasted it to a safe spot and waited. Tried to start the car up and it turns over but doesn't start. It sounds like it just not getting enough gas....

could also be a crank sensor or a ignition module as this is a older vehicle it will have a ignition module but where to look first i cannot say as never seen this model here in spain ,also check for a wiring connector somewhere on the vehicle under the bonnet

My 1989 chevy c1500 will try to start but will keep dying. after a while it will start back up and may die and may not. happens more and more often. sometimes just driving down the street. someone said...

My son was having a similar problem. Turned out to be the ignition control module located inside the distributor cap. You can take it out with a phillips screwdriver and have it checked at OReillys.

Try replacing the fuel pump relay, or you may have a PCM (computer) and prom failing. Underneath your hood, behind the passenger side headlight, behind the core support, is a bank of 2-8 relays. One of those relays is the relay needed for your fuel pump. There will also be a fuel pump relay fuse located there.
Inspect that area for any corrosion or loose wire (bad ground) Good luck and here is a link for you to retrieve your DTC codes and that may help you resolve the car's issue.
Thank you for using fixya
