If your Expedition has over 80 thousand miles your explaining that the altenator is worn out. the brush holder and the conn ( the turning part of the rotor that the brushes run on are worn down enough that they skip and fail to connect, and the light comes on. Most Fprd altenators wear out between 80- 120 thousand miles depending on the lind of life it's lived. Rebuilt units are as good as new ones and I was working at a rebuilder and it's one of the more common repairs.
