I think this is one that you have to remove the right front tire, and remove an access panel in the back of the wheelwell, then you will be able to reach it fairly easily. It comes out through this access panel opening.

Of course, disconnect the battery ground (negative) cable first, and support the car on a good solid jackstand (not the jack), with the parking brake set and rear wheels blocked, but you know that, right?

Will a 1996 3100 engine grand am engine work in a Chevy malibu 2000 with a 3100 engine

The engine block is probably the same, but most of the components including exhaust and sensors would be different.
A salvage yard could tell you for sure, they have the interchange books.

I need to know the size engine that is in a 6 cyl. 1996 grand am some tell me it's a 3100 but nothing on computer lists that size is it a 3.1

the 3100 is a 3.1 litre v6 so that is correct it is a cast iron block with aluminum heads used in several gm cars.

Need a picture diagram on the 1996 Jeep Grand Cherokee Alternator

The best visual you have is your vehicle! Take a picture if you need to.
Write down what went where before you start. Check stickers under the hood and make sure there is a diagram for the serpentine belt, if not draw a picture and make your own before taking it off. Attachmnent bolts are usually very different and nearly impossible to to get wrong. Electrical connections are generally of the plug in type. any that are not you can label with tape. Most important is to disconnect battery positive lead before starting the job. Replacing it only when all other mechanical work is finished. Also, alternators are expensive...make sure (by testing) that the alternator is bad, before spending time and $!!!
