Question about 2000 Dodge Durango

2000 Dodge durango wont start or crank and starter tested fine. could it be the ignition switch or the alternatior?

Assuming your battery is charged, it is not the alternator. Could be interlock or ignition switch. See my tips at

Car working fine, suddenly wont start

Be sure it is in fact the right gas cap. Often when you purchase from someone like bumper to bumper etc the parts people get the wrong info. I suggest you go direct to the dealership pickup a cap and see if that solves the problem.

98 durango will not start good abttery and starter also starter relay is new

Hi queenshit200, I'm glad to help!

First you must make sure you have power from the ignition switch to the ASD Relay. Using a test light, turn the ignition switch to the on position and see if you have power at the relay, if the test lights up when you turn the key on and turns off when you turn the ignition off then it is OK from the ignition switch to the relay. NEXT, you must have battery power to the relay at all times, if you do then that circuit is OK. NEXT: make certain you have a good ground on the body of the vehicle and the engine. Also make sure you have a good power too power connection at the junction where the power wires meet together. If all that is OK, then you'll need to know if the Engine Controller is seeing something it doesn't like. OR it's possible the CRANK SENSOR or something else may be bringing down the BUS CIRCUIT. Unplug one thing at a time and see if it starts. If it does after unplugging that sensor or part then that's what you must replace to fix it. Hope this helps and have an awesome day.

Dodge Durango 2002. Sometimes wont start. No crank. Battery good. Cleaned battery connection. Changed lock mechanism and ignition switch. When I turn key nothing happens but all other electrical items work...

Starter solenoid. It's the switching mechanism on the starter that engages the starter when you turn the key. To test you would need to make sure you're getting power from the ignition wire at the starter when the key is turned(The small wire, not the big one). If it does get power, the solenoid is bad and the starter needs to be changed. If it does not, then it's something between the key and the starter like the starter relay in the fuse box under the hood

I have a 2001 dodge durango 5.9lL and it wont start. I can hear the fuel pump when I turn the key half way but when I turn it all the way the starter turns but the engine wont turn over

It sounds like you are not getting spark from the spark plugs. The ignition coil controls the spark. The crank sensor also controls the spark. If I had to guess I would say test or replace the ignition coil. If tests okay i would do a resistance test on crank sensor. But at my shop I have seen many Ignition coils go bad.

Starter wont crank on a 2000 oldsmobile intrigue

Check your manual if you have it. I believe you need to have the key in the ignition in the ON position for about 10 minutes to reset the security system.

Put key in ignition turn and get nothing no sound nothing when i try again it cranks and eventually turns over

You likely need a set of contacts in the starter,but you may also need brushes put in the starter,either way the starter needs to come off.Only do this after you have eliminated the battery by either having the battery tested or trying to start the truck with a boost.If it always starts with a boost,then get a battery and also get the charging system tested.

I have a 1999 dodge durango,i replaced new spark plugs and new wires but the car won't start?

Do you have crank no start? (see entire write up)
b)No crank no start?, ( battery, battery cables, neutral safety switch ignition switch,,starter relay)
c)No dash lights, no crank? (battery, battery cables, ignition switch)
If you have symptom A then the affected items are , ignition switch, battery, battery cables, starter, starter relay ,coil, coil pack, ignition module ,Distributor cap ,rotor, (if applicable) spark plugs and wires.
The best thing to do is to first make sure your timing belt didn't break. As long as the engine cranks you can do this. Give the battery a 3 min charge . Then have a helper crank the vehicle while you observe the rotation of all the pulley's and belts. They must rotate together. If the vehicle has a distributor remove the cap ground the coil wire and watch the rotor as the engine is cranked. it should spin. If this is a-ok your worse nightmare is over.
Now we have eliminated the timing belt as being a cause. We now have to charge the battery again for three min and load test it( this is best done by a repair shop a load tester is expensive .If the battery is more than 5yrs old you may want to replace it.
If battery does not pass load test replace it.
Whatever you decide the rest of the items can NOT be checked out without a fully charged battery.
Check ignition switch and starter relay for B+ going to them and leaving them. Check starter circuit.Do not forget neutral safety switch its on your brake pedal and once depressed it closes the circuit to the relay so B+ can travel to it . Make sure B+ is making it to starter ( use a digital voltmeter). If B+ (12 volts) is making it to the starter and it doesn't crank then the starter is defective. Do a starter current draw test to verify this or remove the starter and have it bench tested.
If starter cranks now your into coil testing .
Pull a spark plug hook it up to a spark tester and ground it, now crank the engine if you get spark coil is ok and in all likelihood so is module.
If you don't get spark test for spark at the coil wire.
If you get spark here and don't get it at the spark plug wire problem is at distributor cap , rotor or spark plug wire. IN YOUR CASE YOU HAVE NEW PLUGS AND WIRES SO IT WILL BE EASIER TO CHECK FOR SPARK.If all of the above are a-ok.
Next is fuel checks.
Easiest fuel check is to put key into ignition cylinder and turn to on position. Lister for pump to buzz or hum. if it doesn't then check fuel pump relay for B+ going to it and leaving it and going to the pump. If B+ making it to pump and it doesn't turn on the pump is your problem. If B+ not making it to pump either the relay or the ignition switch is defective.
