Pump up the brake pedal a few times, hard as you can, it should self adjust.

Replace brake pads

Remove wheels. Remove calpers and extract worn pads. Open bleed screw on calper and using suitable tool ( G clamp ect) push the piston all the way back in. Close of bleeder screw. Check that the disc (rotor) is in good condition and fit pads in reverse to the way you removed them taking care that all antireattlle devices are correctly fitted., REfitting is reverse to dissasembly. Rear pads are more difficult to do because of the hand brake mechanism

I just did the rear brakes on my 2001 olds aurora and had the caliper bolt on the driver's side rear snap off. Had to take the whole assembly out to clear the piece of broken bolt. Got it taken care...

The light comes on for 2 reasons. 1 the E brake is pulled. 2 the brake fluid is low. There is a switch on the Ebrake that can go bad, this is rare. There is a float in the master cylinder resevoir that can stick or it can go bad electronically or the brake fluid is low

Make sure you have the notches in the piston correctly aligned wit hthe tabs on the pads. If thats good then you have a fualty caliper.

I can't retract the rear calper on my 2002 Jaguar X-type. I am changing the pads & rotor. vem

What are you using? A c-clamp or you hands? A c-clamp ussually works but can sometimes cause the piston to become ****-eyed in the caliper. Best bet is to use the proper tool or a c clamp. Both work good. If it won't retract with those, the piston is siezed. Time for a new caliper.
