Question about Dodge Dakota

1 Answer

I have a 94 dodge dakota and the fuel gauge doesn't work properly, is it perhaps the sensor, how do I replace it?

When you say "does not work properly", what exactly is wrong? Is it working at all? Is it intermittent (works sometimes, not work other times), or is it just reading somewhat higher or lower than it should (shows 1/4 tank when 1/2 full or vice versa)?

Yes, it souds like it may be the sending unit, this is located inside the tank on the fuel pump asm, you will need to drop the tank so i would run as low as i could on fuel it make the job easier, remove the strap and lower the tank enough to dissconnent the fuel lines and fuelpump connector, lower the tank remove the lock ring and pull pump asm out, replace the whole asm or if the sender is available replace that .

Was the sending unit replaced

You say you had something done or checked

We have over 300 new people a day, come to this
site alone, that have not found a repair shop or dealer
that can resolve anything, at all

Why is that,I ask?

I have 1992 dakota factory manuals from mine old one

If you get specific about serious wire chasing I will
look things up for you.

Fuel gauge not working properly

The fuel sending unit is bad,it is in the tank, you may have to buy a fuel pump assy,to receive the sending unit ,if it is not available by itself.

Put in new float unit on fuel pump.gas gauge still not working

did you replaced just the float , because if the resistor that messures the level is not good you didn't do any thing you have to change the level sensor next to the pump..,Im sure that;s all the problem, you should also check the wiring next to the pumpand any connector down there

Gas gauge not working on 94 dodge dakota

it sounds like the gauge float assembly in the top of the tank has gone bad. But before you change it I would look at all of your electrical connections and make sure that they all are properly grounded for that circuit.

94 Dakota 3.9 L v6

I had a similar problem only I was lucky enough that my gas gauge started working after it got lower than a 1/2 tank. It ended up being the float inside the tank. I ended up paying around $90 for the fuel float and it started reading the gas level correctly. But after 2 weeks and some severe cold weather, my engine wouldn't recieve any gas, ended up being the fuel pump. In buying the new fuel pump, along came a new float attached. So if your planning on replacing the float, go ahead and replace the whole pump, it will save you time, money, and hassle after its all over with.
