I'd stick with using the original drain plug. Try using course sand paper or metal file and smooth down the 1st thread on plug where it would first go in. Sometimes those get damaged and don't want to go back in. If you can see the plug hole you could try the same but don't get carried away there, that's much harder to fix. 1st thread is always the cause either way.

It is possible that the threads in the pan are bad. One way would be to trplace the oil pan, and another way is to instlaa a oversize drain plug that will cut ned threads in the drain plug opening. The auto parts may also have a type of expandable plug that couls work too.

Where are oil drain holes located

It's easy to do - the most difficult part is going to be finding the correct wrench to fit the plugs - you need a 10mm square drive - I know it looks like it's a 3/8" square drive, but it's not, and if you use a 3/8" square ratchet drive, as many people do, you run the risk of rounding out the hole...

Park the car on level ground and set the hand brake (parking brake), slide under the rear end and remove the fill plug (the higher of the two plugs) first - if you do not get the fill plug out, do not remove the drain plug.

Once you have the fill plug out, place a drain pan under the axle and remove the drain plug (the lower plug) and allow the oil to drain - give it half an hour or so - and then replace the drain plug and add oil through the fill hole until it starts to dribble back out, and then replace the fill plug.

You need 2.5 litres (5.3 US pints) of 75W85 GL5 oil, and it helps if you get yourself one of those cheap "oil pumps" - 1?mpt=1886339750&adtype=1&size=1x1&type=3&campid=5336116678&toolid=10001 amazon_icon.gif 1?mpt=1886339750&adtype=1&size=1x1&type=3&campid=5336116678&toolid=10001 this is just an example, I'm sure the auto parts place nearest you has something similar.

Car starts but runs rough if i run 5 mins and restart runs ok

Start by changing the coolant temp sensor It is located on the transmission side of the head, below the upper radiator hose Squeeze the plug to remove,It is much easier if you remove the battery first Put some sealant on the threds of the new sensor (auto zone.11.00 ) no need to drain coolant, remove sensor with a 14mm deep socket remove sensor and have the other one ready to install pull one ,install the other than put all back

Can't find the drain plug on transmission of 87

most trannis don't have a drain plug. I don't know if this does or not but if it doesn't this is what you do. Slightly loosen bolts starting from on corner. Don't go in a circle, start at a corner and loosen one on one side then another on the next. I said loosen not remove. Do this all the way around, then at the corner you started at, loosen a little more doing the same process. Might have to pry pan down a little to break the gasket seal so fluid can start draining. Keep doing this in small steps till pan is all the way off. Doing this in slow steps will empty the pan and will be no mess.

If it IS Leaking from DRAIN PLUG and You Can Not RE-TAP New THREDS into it ( REPLACE the OIL PAN) I Have never RE-TAPED Drain Plug Threds Because I Prefer Original Threds, So Any Customer wiht This Problem, I Advised them to Replace the Whole OIL PAN.
This is What I Would do, The Oil Avalability Is CRUCIAL to The Engines Survival.

The coolant drain plug is located on the bottom left side of the radiator when looking from front of car. To access it you must remove the passenger side fog light and push the rubber cover out of the way.

Camry 87' Stoplight Switch Removal & Replacement

Are you sure the switch is bad? sounds to me its just out of ajustment. The little plunger is not comming out far enought from break peddel arm to turn them off. It should have a one piece plastic clip on the electrical plug that snaps over a raised piece of plastic on the switch witch has to be pulled up to release it. Once you get it unpluged you can move it back and forth to get the right ajustment.
