The transmission fluid goes in the same tube that holds the dip stick that you check the fluid levels with. You will need a funnel, and be sure to use only manufacturer recommended fluid in your vehicle. Be careful not to over fill. Ensure the Galant is at operating temperature by driving it for about 10 minutes. 2: Open the hood of the Galant and locate the automatic transmission fluid reservoir and dipstick on the driver's side of the engine. The dipstick is labeled "ATF" and is red. 3: Pull the dipstick out of the reservoir, wipe it clean with a rag and reinsert it. Remove it once more and take the measurement of the current fluid level. Do not add any fluid if the fluid is already at the "Full" line; overfilling the reservoir can damage the transmission. If the measurement is between the "Full" and "Add" lines or below the "Add" lines, then continue to Step 4: Insert a funnel into the reservoir and pour a small amount of transmission fluid into the container. Check the fluid levels again by removing the funnel and inserting the dipstick into the reservoir. Pull the dipstick back out and read the fluid level on the dipstick. Continue this process until the fluid is at the "full" line. If you would like to do a transmission filter kit I have found a site with full color pictorial and instructions. Pretty handy!!!

Automatic transition no gears

Check the automatic transmission cable adjustment and fluid (ATF) level. Be sure that the car is in P, hand brake pulled, the engine is running and is at operating temperature. Do the following:
1. Take the transmission oil dip stick out, wipe it with fiber free tissue paper or clean piece of cloth and insert the dip stick back to its place.
2. While the engine is running, take the stick out again place it horizontal and see the oil level.
3.If the level is at upper mark or in between upper and lower marks it is OK. Put the stick back to its place.
4. If the transmission oil is less than lower mark, add the manufacturer specified oil up to the mark, and test drive the car.
5. If the oil level is found to be OK, remove the transmission filter, clean it or replace it, and test drive the car. It should now work.

Was it a new manual transmission? If it was used, you may have gotten one with some wear on the bearings. There is only one place to put transmission into the transmission. Are you using the correct grease for a manual transmission?

I just purchased a 93 legend and after speaking to the parts dept at the dealer i think the oil and transmission fluids have been put in the wrong place... how do i drain the fluids and replace them...

First off - if your pull your dipstick and there is oil on it - then oil is in the right place.

Unless you have the tools - large jack - -pan - oil filter removal [ if transmission fluid is in there - it can wreck your car unless replaced ] etc - I would just take it to a trusted oil change place - right now Good Year is having an oil change special and they are professionals that can tell you for sure which fluid is where.

Good luck with it - let us know what you find out.

Place to check and fill Transmission oil in Mazda Protege 1993

Don't listen to the other guy, I own a 1990 1.8L mazda protege with a manual transmission. Yes it will make it easier to hoist it up. I am not going into extreme detail so as long as you know a little about cars this will be a great help.
on the transmission locate the drain plug, it will be on the bottom of the transmission. don't loosen it yet you want to make sure you can fill the transmission before you drain it. there is no fill plug, you have to fill the transmission through the hole the speedometre cable is attached to the transmission. the speedometre cable is straight up and down/vertical, it should be above the passenger side cv shaft coming out of the transmission.
remove the small bolt holding it in place and then pull it straight up and out of the transmission. now drain the transmission. put the drain plug back in and start filling, make sure not to overfill you are not supposed to fill it right full.
Make sure to check the fluid level as you fill, the transmission is at the right level when the gear oil is just at the top of the speedometre gear that is on the end of the cable that is inserted into the transmission.
I believe these transmissions take 75w 90.
Hope this helped you, and maybe future people who view this looking for help.

How do i check the transmission fluid

transmission fluid you can check easy way the gear box is one oil to be so you can see in the middle of the gear box filling plug remove that with spanner if you see oil coming from hole that is fine you don't put more just putted back and tight. if you don't see any oil just use your finger front part through if the front part of your finger touch the oil that is also fine means ok. but is the oil is very low from that place you must fill.
To get the level if you fill the oil you stop filling when you see oil is draining so you wait until oil stop clean the aria then you fixed back the filling plug or bolt tight.

that is my advice sorry any mistake of my tipping.
