USUALLY THE VSS IS LOCATED ON THE TRANSMISSION HOUSING. RAISE THE VEHICLE ON THE JACK FOLLOWING SAFETY MEASURES( APPLYING HANDBRAKE AND WHEEL STOPPERS); LOCATE THE VSS, DISCONNECT THE ELECTRICAL CONNECTION AND REMOVE THE BOLTS ATTACHING THE VEHICLE SPEED SENSOR. REPLACING IS THE THE REVERSE.

For a V6 altima easiest way is to remove the radiator. Altenator is on the front of the engine at the bottom. With the radiator out of the way can fit it out. Ususal atuff for the altenator. Disconnect the battery. Loosen the belt to remove it. The unplug connector and the 12mm bolt for the output. Then unbolt altenator to remove. Will not be able to fit it out without removing radiator

1996 NISSIAN ALTIMA TRANSMISSION WILL NOT GO PASS 60MPH HAVE INSTALLED A NEW SPEED SENSOR AND TRANSMISSION FILTER AND PUT A BOTTLE OF LUCAS IN IT WHAT COULD be problem

you did not specify if this was an autobox! in an autobox when a gear or a gearclutch gets damaged it tends to go into a freeza mode or will not select that specific damaged gear to change. this happens to prevent further damage.have your gearbox checked out. secondhand boxes are also an option. do not go to the agents. they rip people off.

Where is the speed sensor located?

The vehicle speed sensor is located below the air cleaner assembly, it is held in with one bolt (I believe 10mm):
  1. Remove the bolt and vehicle speed sensor assembly.
  2. Remove the clip and speedometer driven gear from vehicle speed sensor.
  3. Remove the O-ring from vehicle speed sensor
  4. Coat a new O-ring with ATF and install it to the vehicle speed sensor.
  5. Install the speedometer driven gear to the vehicle speed sensor and clip.
  6. Install the vehicle speed sensor assembly and torque the bolts. Torque: 16 Nm (160 kgf-cm, 12 ft. lbs.)

Where is the crankshaft sensor on a 03 nissian altima? and how hard is it to replace? also where is the Engine Speed Sensor, and how hard it that to replace?

You may want to take a trip to your local Nissan dealer. There is a campaign/recall where we replace both the cam and crank position sensors. Your vehicle may apply to this campaign and you can get a set of free/new sensors installed.
The sensor is located on the engine block, near where the transmission bolts up, on the firewall side. The sensor can be replaced from the top or the bottom, and if you don't know what you are doing, it can be extremely difficult to put one in.

The biggest problem is the connector securing the wiring harness to the sensor. Unlike the camshaft position sensor connector, the crank position sensor is secured to the harness via some push button green colored assembly. Once the green button was depressed ALL THE WAY DOWN I was then able to pull the connector off. Then AND ONLY THEN was I able to get a 10mm socket with extension on it thus being able to remove it.

Your going to take the air horn and baffle off and then I used a large tie wrap to secure out of the way to heater hoses. Then you can be able to get your arm down between the firewall and the block and do what I mentioned in the paragraph above.

if you want to replace it from under the vehicle. Use a 90 degree screwdriver to use as a prybar for the green lock. Push against the axle for leverage and then the lock goes down. Then use an extension with a 10mm wobble with a 1/4" drive ratchet and remove the sensor. You usually have to use a pair of needle-nosed vice grips to remove the sensor, but since it's bad, destroy it anyways, it's a non-issue.

Good luck and hope this helps,  Be really careful when you start the bolt back in after installing the new one. It's easy to cross thread.
