Should be one big hot wire and one smaller solenoid wire that is hot in "start". There may also be a ground wire for the solenoid and a ground strap for the starter.

Motor swamp on a 1991 firebird when you turn key starter will not row over and fuel and ecm will not get current, check fusible links, the clutch switch works ok , the anti theft relay is ok, cant figure...

You likely put the starter engagement wire on the wrong post[purple wire to the small post of the solenoid switch on the starer motor].The ecu will not get current until it sees engine rpm so you need to get it to crank first then recheck for power.

Change the coolant sensor, they are faily cheap and usually easy to get to. They are also prone to failure on the early years of fuel injection.

1991 firebird turns over slow, but always starts.

If the battery is in good condition, good connections and passes a load test, the starter may be bad. But be sure the connections and the grounds are good.

1989 Firebird 2.8 If you are looking at the abck of the starter where does the single wire go right or left side?

Facing the solenoid on the starter, the small (trigger) wire goes to the terminal on the right.Be careful that it does not touch the larger battery terminal and remember, the cover on the solenoid is plastic...tighten too much and you can break it.

THE START ENABLE MODULE MUST HAVE THE CORRECT RESISTANCE FROM THE KEY CHIP. IS THE KEY A COPY? TRY AN OHM-METER ACROSS THE CHIP TO SEE IF YOU HAVE RESISTANCE. IF NO RESISTANCE, THEN YOU MAY NEED TO REPLACE THE CYLINDER AND KEY FOUND AT MOST AUTO PARTS STORES. A LIVE CHAT MAY HELP YOU GET FASTER RESULTS. HOPE THIS HELPS. PLEASE KEEP ME POSTED.
