Engine firing order

First generation (ZJ) (1993-1998) what engine?
you dont know what engine is under the hood>?
well there are 3+ engines. or more , if exported out of USA. more.
for the inline engines, all are #1 front (RWD cars)
if you look close,. one cylinder is more forward that the other in front
that farther forward is called #1 on all V engines. (ASE class day 1 rule)
now the firing orders of most.
1,3,4,2 I4.
153624 v , I6 <<<<<< my guess. INLINE SIX Four Liters?
5.9l started in 1998 , USA Export models produced at the plant in Graz, Austria, were given the vehicle designation of "ZG". (have diffr. engines)

3.7L 6 cylinder
1-6-5-4-3-2

4.7L 8 Cylinder
1-8-4-3-6-5-7-2

5.7L 8 Cylinder
1-8-4-3-6-5-7-2

even the 5.9L fits. some jeeps had the engine changed.
so not looking and seeing what you have its a wild card.
mine has 3.8L V6
1-2-3-4-5-6.
but fires in pairs, due to wasted spark coils ,(3 coils) tricky , no?

now I have answered for just about all engines. there.

Remove starter

Disconnect the positive wire from the battery. Follow that wire down near the bottom of the engine and it will be connected to a round cylinder (soloniod) on top of a larger round cylinder (starter). Disconnect all of the wires marking them so you will reconnect them in the same manner. Remove the two 5/8 inch bolts and the starter will come out.

Knocking in engine

If you are pushing oil out everywhere, and it's knocking, first check the pcv and vacuum hose (or ccv) if it's clear, I'ts likely you have a serious engine problem...likely a failed bearing, and possibly a piston problem as well. Check your oil pressure and do a compression test to se what's going on in there.Since #5 is showing a code, pay attention to what you find in that cylinder.
