When you get it running again, take it to an Autozone or Oreillys for a free scan. Ask for a charging system test too!

When you have a significant short, there will be a good amount of sparking when hooking up the Battery cable. Your scan may reveal the problem. You may have to use an Ohmmeter with both Battery cables disconnected from the Battery.

You would turn off everything you can and then have a helper look at the Ohmmeter readings as you unplug and replace one fuse at a time. When the Ohmmeter reading drops, you have found the system that is shorting.

Once you have found the bad system, like power windows, or rear window defroster you can work on that one wire. Lately there have been Ignition switches that are staying on when turned off.

Check with a Dealer for your Vin# and see if the Cruise Control was a Recall item. They were known to stay on and cause fires in certain production years.

Connecting wire harness to the battery terminals you always will see the spark. The reason is that immediately after connecting the wire harness, the car electrical system is sourcing at least 1amp. The reason is that computer and modules switch to learning mode, so it is more complicated ...

you have to wait at least 15 minutes before measuring the current, with a multimeter, set at 0 - 10 AMP mode.

Hi, Check Battery for 12v You may have dead or low battery. Charge or replace battery with new...If that does not get you going have a mechanic look it over. There maybe more things wrong.
Good luck.

Fixya guys give wrong info like Auto mechanics. Most of the time theirs nothing wrong with your car. Like if Battery dead. Just recharge it ! You don't need new battery like Stu*** fixya guys say!!

Sorry but batteries don't just go dead for no reason ! A parasitic draw on the electrical system ,do you know what that is ? Do you know what control modules are ? PCM/ECM , BCM , EBCM , SRS , HVAC etc .. After key is switched off these modules power down (go SLEEP) , sometimes they don't . This causes an electrical drain on the system causing a dead battery . I will admit some guys on here do jump the gun a bit . Never I repeat NEVER replace anything on a vehicle without testing . Load test the battery first .

New alternator new battery and my break light and battery light is still on why is that?

Check charging system output. If it is correct then their is something wrong with the gauge light. If the battery is not going dead, then that is most likely. Brake light has nothing to do with the problem.

My daughter car battery went dead had a jump start but her cousin put the leads on the wrong terminal could this have blown the main fuse as no lights at all put new battery on today

Yes this will defiantly blow the main engine fuse. This fuse is located in the engine compartment and is usually bolted down with 10mm bolts.

My battery is running dead every two days! I jump it and starts up, after several minutes with the jumper pack cables! This has happened 4 to 5 times since I purchased the vehicle just 2 weeks ago...Am I...

If the key is in off position it won't drain battery.
You may have battery draw in that vehicle , or the battery itself is going out.(BMW batteries are good for 4-5 years)
Both cases needs to be checked by workshop , cause BMW very sensetive to the voltage drop. When you disconnect battery you may need to perform some settings adaptation after you replace it or connect it back.
New BMW requared to reset computer even after brake job and battery replacement.

Battery keeps going dead. 06 ls430

With the engin not running and the key off, lift the hood and disconnect the positive lead on the battery. Then touch the lead back to positive terminal on the battery. If a spark is seen, there is something still on in the car. Could be the power mirror switch, seat heaters or even a car phone. Trial and error to find it.

Sorry I can't be more specific but that is the test.

Good luck.

Battery keeps going dead.

obviously there is an abnormal drain on the vehicles electrical system. Examples of this are a glove box or conso;e light staying even though you closed it, is there a reading or compartment light on ? Anybody that just says "you need a battery without ALSO testing the electrical system for integrity is not helping,
