Burning smell and smoke coming from left tyre 1993 t oyota 4runner

This will likely be the left brake caliper piston is 'frozen' and cannot release once the brake peal is released after applying them. This causes overheating of the brake rotor, thus creating smoke, heat and smell. If you look at your rotor it is probably a blue color, which is not normal. However, in some cases the brake caliper that is frozen will not work and overloads the opposite side. The brake calipers must be checked for piston movement - by removing the caliper and trying to depress the piston back into its bore, if it will not depress the caliper must be replaced. The same holds true for the rear.

How push in the piston on the rear wheel brake in order to replace a new brake padd

After removing the caliper from it's mount, and If you are sure the piston is not frozen (rusted) in place, Try a very large C clamp. You should be able to compress the pistons with very little force. If not, you may need new or rebuilt calipers. Check online for more ideas by searching for Mazda rear brake repairs, you'll be surprised how much info may be out there.

I am replacing the rear brakes on a 2000 taurus wagon and it seems thea the piston on the caliber is frozen. How do I unfreeze it and if I can't is it difficult to replace the caliber?

The rear caliper piston has to be pushed and turned in, due to the emergency brake set up. There is a tool than can be used to turn the piston in, then press the piston in, then turn the piston again, until the piston is collapsed, you'll have to do this a few times, turn the piston clockwise. You might want to spray some WD-40 around the seal and piston to help turning the piston.

Rear brake caliper piston on 03 mustang will not retract back into piston housing even under pressure of c clamp with bleed valve open.

Either the caliper is frozen or or you need a special tool that will allow the piston to be screwed back in at the same time pushing the piston in. If the piston is solid and has grooves in it it requires the tool. If the piston is open in the center then most likely the caliper is bad. Alternatively you can use a c clamp and something that can be used to turn the piston such channel locks but the tool works best.

Can't compress rear piston on 2000 Bonneville. Replaced front rotors and pads, no problem with piston. Replaced R-rear rotor and pads but piston is frozen.???

  1. To retract the caliper piston into the caliper bore use a spanner type wrench to turn the piston. You can also rent the correct tool from a local parts store or you may use a pair of channel lock pliers and apply slight pressure with a C clamp. You must be very careful not to damage rubber boot or piston. Turn the piston clockwise until it bottoms out fully in the caliper.
  2. Align the cutouts in the caliper piston to the alignment pins on the back of the brake pads.

1992 Honda Prelude Si brake caliper piston prob

As your car has a handbrake fitted to the rear calipers, you will need a piston wind in tool to retract the piston fully back into the caliper as when you adjust your handbrake the piston automatically winds itself to the required position for usage without this tool you are getting nowhere,so get hold of a tool to do the job and you should not have problem unless the piston has totally siezed on the screw then you will have a problem being the only way to repair would to be a new or refurbished caliper.

Sound like you have the typical "frozen" crank bolt. To remove it, it's counter clockwise. What you do to remove it when it's frozen, pull #1 spark plug out, rotate crank so #1 piston is at the bottom of the cylinder. Now take a long piece of rope and stuff it into the spark plug hole as much as you can. Use a screwdriver to keep stuffing rope into cylinder. The rope is now a piston stop. When turning the crank counter clockwise to remove it, you'll feel the crank stop. Now you can crank on the wrench to break the bolt loose. I use a long 1/2" drive breaker bar, long 1/2" extension, and a jack stand to support the extension and with a jack handle over the breaker bar, pull hard and you'll hear a loud pop. At this point the bolt will break loose for you. Don't worry you will not break the crank bolt doing this. After the bolt breaks loose, rotate the crank clockwise again just enough the remove the rope.
