Sounds like a problem with the fuel supply either a blocked filter or more likely a failing/failed pump. Park somewhere quite and put ignition to position 2 (not starting position). Listen at the open fuel cap and mid way down the car and then under the hood. It should be possible to hear both the tank lift pump and the main pump running.

I have a ford v-10 I can only go up hill 30 mph is this normal.

Oh heavens no... NOT normal.

If it was sputtering or anything like that you wouldn't even begin to think it normal... so I'm writing off the water in the tank... (show itself on inclines & declines... but only on a hill?? Blocked exhaust... all of that would sputter & fumble.

Interesting!

I'm going with a fuel pressure problem... marginal or an ECU... or timing is way off.

In the old days... when you hit a hill.. the vacuum drop was quite significant... the distributor advance would drop back to RETARDED... give you more TORQUE and bring you efficiently up that hill... So if your fuel pressure is good... timing tests good... you need to be looking at your ECU...

I'm thinking that is where all the vacuum, rpm... advancing is properly monitored.

Happy hunting...

Grand prix sputtering

First off, is a check engine lite on,if so do you know the codes? It does have a cam sensor, the cam sensor malfunction gives a code reading,in general fuel probs do not give a code this is done bymanually checking fuel press ect....the module does give specific codes as well...I have seen a cam sensor give the prob. you list, BUT TEST BEFORE YOU BUY,you can get your own codes from the a.l.d.l connector, under dash...take a coated jumper wire and push one end into the g .circuit ,the other into the b terminal and watch the lite flashig in the dash,,ie, 2 flashes...pause then 4 flashes is an example....wilf

1995pontiac,firebird6cyl,sputters at 2000rpm

When you say "sputters at 2000 rpm" , are you referring to ANY time the engine is at 2000 rpm - meaning in Park, when you are just goosing the throttle, or in gear when you are accelerating, or at highway speed in high gear? If you are experiencing a "shuddering" in the engine at certain speeds/rpms - especially if these are speeds you regularly cruise at (long commutes at steady speeds), the problem could be in the Throttle Position Sensor (TPS). They have a tendency to wear unevenly if you drive a certain steady speeds. Eventually, the problem would progress to an engine code, but it may occur without setting the check engine light.
