These are often welded but you can cut and splice as desired. Just make sure to get a good seal on all welds.

Chevy catalytic converter

Given the age of the vehicle, Chevy does not have to stock or make those parts any longer. (10 years is the max required by law.) You are going to end up using aftermarket parts. I can guarantee that if you take it to any exhaust muffler shop, they are just going to cut the pipes with a saws-all.

The only thing you can do if its welded there is cut the catalytic converter pipe and weld it back together when your done. Keep in mind that you want to try and cut the pipe in the easiest place that you will be able to weld it back together.

Catalytic Converters, honda civic ex can I fix it instead buying a new one

no but because yours is flanged easy fix get a universal converter gaskets you will need some peices of exhaust take the old unit and the new one to a welding shop have them make you new one the same length as the old one and cut the flanges off the old one and weld to new one all this is probably cheaper than buying a direct fit converter

it will require some welding so you better off to let the muffler people do it. unless you are willing to tackle with it, then you need to cut the cat out then buy some pipe adaptors and some exhaust clamps.

Catalytic converter

The short answer is NO... It's not like changing a muffler in the "good old days". They are welded in and need to be cut out then rewelded, etc... not an easy job unless you have access to shop tools.
Can I ask WHY you need to change the converter??? They usually last as long as the car. I recntly sold a 1998 Olds with 245,000 miles on it and it had the original converter intact.
Good Luck

How do you change the catalytic converter

Catalytic converters are very expensive parts and for the most part what people do is cut them off, and then replace it with at strait pipe. You can however if you are willing to spend the money, cut it off, and using an extension pipe put a new one on. You may need to weld it in place. Normally since the location of the converter is directly under the cabin you would want a professional to do the work to ensure there are no leaks. A leak in the exhaust here could prove to be detrimental to your health.

Do i need to weld a new catalytic converter to my 2000 chevy blazer

First of all do you have one on there presently? This is what one does so if you don't have one it would be a good idea. A catalytic converter provides an environment for a chemical reaction wherein toxic combustion by-products are converted to less-toxic substances.A catalytic converter (colloquially, "cat" or "catcon") is a device used to reduce the toxicity of emissions from an internal combustion engine. You may just want to check your O2 sensor. I hope this helped you!
