Question about 1999 Chevrolet Suburban

1 Answer

I have a 1999 chevy suburban and was cleaning the doors and hit the lock mechanism mounted on the side of the door itself and the lock catch that holds the door shut against the locking rod for the lock mounted on the frame of the truck inside the door opening, it wont roll back wards after trying to get it to open using the power door lock it wont roll backwards so what part of the mechanism does have to be either resprung or what has to be done to the mechanism to reset it so it returns the the unlocked position. there should be some form of a hole or place for a pin to be inserted into the mechanism that allows it to let the springs to open it up

There is a special tool that GM sells to their tech's but you can just use a small punch or phillips screwdriver to roll the latch forward as you raise the door handle "pretend" you are opening the door while rolling the latch

I have struck silimar issues with fords in NZ. If the actuator is getting full voltage during lock and unlocking, the actuator is faulty. Even though it wants to go it does not have enough strength to pull the lock mechanism, so it can not lock or unlock the catch.

The fuse for the door locks on my 1999 chevy suburban blows as soon as i replace

It is most likely a fault in one of the buttons, you can unplug one of the door lock buttons ,at a time,to find out,but do not unplug the master, the one for the driver,if none of the other door lock buttons is the problem,it will be the master, try it last.

1999 GMC suburban locks seize in locked postion

I just bought a 1999 Suburban and all of the door lock actuators were bad including the rear (barn style door) while I was replacing the rear door acuator I noticed that even with the factory mounting bracket on the actuator it was causing the door lock rod (the rod from the keyed cylinder lock to the actuator) was on a bind......the solution I came up with is adding an additional 3/4" spacer between the factory mount bracket and the door attach point. this solved any binding and the door lock works great now........also I used a lubricant on all the doors where the rods run through the plastic guides, which seemed to help quite a bit! Hope this help's.

My door handle wont open my door on the drivers side. I have to roll down my window to open the door from the outside latch. Is it repairable, or do I have to replace any parts?

I have shaved door handles on a 2000 chevy silverado and the drivers side door just recently stopped opening it seems like its completely locked out and the door is closed so i cannot get to the bolts of the latch assembly when i hit the unlock button it unlocks half way and when you go to open the door it relocks itself even if you manually try to unlock the door and hold the lock forward it still wont open

My rear drivers side door on my 1998 Lumina will not stay closed & lock. The power lock works, the mechanism itself does not catch and lock the door.

Try cleaning the latch with WD40. Work the latch open and close with your fingers and lube it with the WD40.

Pull drivers rear door panel off
1. Remove door lock solenoid and plug it into another door to see if it works
2. If you can reach inside the door to the final mechanism that everything pushes on, push it yourself to see if it works
3. Also look on side of door for possible child saftey lock switch
