Any alternator repair shop will check the alternator output free. It sounds like the diode board is bad but could be the regulator.

No ,I dont think so, I think your alt has had its best days and has went iinto retirement, you can have it tested on the car without removing it to be sure.

2000 Ford Ranger is killing alternators immediately after install

the best way to test an alternator is with a load test-partstores dont do that--battery may still have a bad cell even tho it tested good--an alternator can burn up charging a completely dead batt--make sure batt reads at 12.6volts and no less-----if it reads say at 12.3 its only 50% charged!

1992 holden barina charging problem already replaced alternator but still slowly drains battery

It is not charging the battery because of several problems ---1 when connecting up the wires to the alternator was there a spark at the connection ---2 is the heavy wire on the alternator insulated from the body of the alternator--- is there a fuse in the charge circuit that is blown---4 is the light wires pushed fully home in the connection--- have you the correct alternator for the car ( internal or external voltage regulator)---5 is the drive belt in good condition and tight- If everything checks out then take it to an accredited auto electrician to have the alternator tested properly as new alternators ( out of the box new) can be faulty.

Battery tested dead, bought new battery and installed it but the alternator test read no voltage... tech said that 2000 sentra has had problem in which blown lamp circuit fuse can cause a no voltage...

Yes. You may check the fuse frist but usally the alternator when it goes it goes and that is it. There is one fuse for that and it should be under the hood of the car. if that is good insatll a new alternator.

My car keeps dieing.... i have already replaced the alternator and the battery.... i dont know what to do anymore..

I THINK THE ALTERNATOR IS NOT CHARGING THE BATTERY. CHECK FOR A BLOWN FUSE IN THE FUSE BOX UNDER THE HOOD & IN THE CAR, 2 FUSE BOXES. IGNITION SWITCH NEEDS TO BE ON WHILE TESTING THE FUSES

I changed out a bad alternator and put in a good one but the battery light is still coming on..i took the battery to autozone and they tested it and said it was fine and it was holding a charge but i cant...

The alt. is not charging if you disconnect the battery and the car dies. Make sure you have power going to the alt. and the mega fuse is not blown.

Instrument panel went dead

Checked Every fuse in the fuse box (no small task). This includes #4 - Power point Instrument Panel, #14 - Day time running lamps (auto lamps doesn't work nor does auto lock), #27 - ignition switch run feed, #35 - Instrument Cluster, #41 - Instrument Cluster, #42 - Delayed Accessory, #45 - Ignition switch run/start feed, #102 - Door locks body security module, #103 - Ignition switch, #110 - Ignition switch, & #116 - Ignition switch. But I also check all other ones as well, they all register OK. AC panel & radio work. Turn signals work. Mileage does not work, trip computer does. So, basically, everything works except auto head-lights, auto locks, and the dash cluster (no MPH, RPM, mileage display, Fuel, Temp, Tran Temp, and Oil Pressure).

98 HONDA CIVIC WON'T START(160,000mi)

the battery is no good have an AVR test done,if it is good there is a fusible link that goes to the feedback circuit on the alternator in alot of cars.if the alternator went,it could have blown the fuse link.if you put a charged up battery in there it will run quite a while. but the battery could have been bad and thats what took out the alternator...the other thing you may want to look for is something draining the battery, disconnect the terminal, and put a current meter in series.it should be 1 to 2 milliamps only.sometimes a glovebox light, trunk light etc, drains the battery.

NEW ALTERNATOR, NEW BATTERY, CAR still dies and wont start

Check the main power fuse that goes to the alternator output. if the alternator went out it could have burnt this fuse also.

Regulator in alternator obviously faulty, have it bench tested & fixed or replace alternator, and cure your problem.

Battery, Alternator Problem 02 Sonata?

Very possibly damaged the alternator; these have six diodes that rectify the ac produced by the alternator (hence its name) and are oriented to produce a positive output/negative ground.  This means that they will conduct if their output has a relative negative voltage applied to the positive output terminal.
If you haven't done it already, you need to disconnect the battery cable or the shorted diodes will drain it completely again and could even damage the plates from heat.
Generally, rebuilt alternators are quite reliable so replacing with new isn't really justifiable; the commutators and windings are not stressed hard so replacing brushes and diodes and a good (chemical) bath are about all they need to do to restore them. You may even have a local shop that will restore your own unit if you wish.
