Question about Mercury Grand Marquis
Most likely you are experiencing oil bleed down in the Valve lifters and Valve train. Using the incorrect weight of oil can also cause this problem and so can dirty oil and varnish in the lubrication holes.
What you can try are 2 things, both at a Ford or Mercury Dealer. They have "Lube Express" service where they can can install a Ford filter and oil. When you go, tell them you want a Desludge treatment before the oil change. It only takes a few minutes more.
You may have to repeat the Desludge treatment 1 more time before you can eliminate sludge as a problem. See if there is a difference the first time.
