What the leveling system is is basically a height sensor for the rear height, air shocks, an air compressor and air lines. What happens is the height sensor knows what is considered a normal ride height. When people or items are added at the rear seat or trunk the vehicle sits lower. The air compressor will turn on and attempt to pump up the air shocks to raise the height to normal again so the rear end doesn't bottom out.

What can happen is the compressor fails to turn on due to a blown fuse, faulty compressor or defective height sensor. If the compressor turns on the shocks might not be able to pump up due to a line leak or air shock leak.

If you are able to look at the lines or shocks you might find a problem. Otherwise going to your mechanic and have him/her inspect the system to see what the problem might be and then deside if you want to fix it or have them do the repair. Because the light turns on periodically and goes out I would suspect a leak somewhere.

Air suspension diagram for cadillac catera 1999. The leveling light is constantly on even when im parked. I;m trying to find a air suspension diagram to track the problem down.

this happened 2 me also because the rear air shocks were popped, they are very expensive 2 replace with factory parts, I found aftermarket air shocks for $80 but you need 2 fill them manually and disconnect the compressor . If you want 2 track the lines the compressor is behind the front bumper near the passenger side wheel well from there you can follow the lines 2 the shocks, meanwhile you should disconnect the air compressor it can burn out from running all the time. The factory shocks are close 2 $300 ea. with the aftermarket shocks there with be a valve stem 4 you 2 fill them with and are easy for a do it yourselfer

1998 caddy catera levelling light flashes on dash car rides hard [real hard] cab hear slight hissing sound from under car is there a compressor [air] for the shocks any help appreciated

Yes there is a air compressor follow the plastic tubes from the shocks to locate it also make sure your leveling sensor on your rear axle is not damaged if it is ok then you will have to have the system diagnoised to find out what is wrong. If it is just a air leak it should be rather simple to repair with pieces from your local parts store.

Catera leveling light flashing and the shocks are jacked way up.

If you look under the rear, you will find a control link between the body and axle. likely it has broken of become disconnected.

Leveling light on in my cadillac catera

Most likely a leak on one of the air shocks or a faulty control module. Replacement air shocks are available through Monroe, part number MA825.

Leveling light

The solution is usually either a leaking rear air shock or a faulty ride control module.

Leveling light comes on and blinks

The leveling light is when the catera is trying to adjust it's back end based on weight, so whenever the light comes on you need to park your car and wait until it turns off. If it begins to blink do the same thing. If it doesn't go off in 5 min then go get it checked out by a mechanic, because something could be broken. It is in the manual if this does not make sense.

97 catera leveling light flashes all the time

The problem is a leaking air shock(s). My 1997 catera had this problem also. I drove the rear wheels up on a set of ramps and went underneath. There is a sensor located close to the rear axle's that moves up when the car is loaded in the rear. (luggage/person in the back seat). When the car senses the extra weight, a small compressor located up under the hood pumps air to the air shocks until the car is back level again. With the key turned on, and the engine off, You can actually move this sensor with your hand and after about 45 seconds, you will hear the small electric compressor come on and see the rear of the car rise. Even if the shock is leaking, the car will still rise but you can hear/feel the air leak on the rubber boot of the shock. The reason the light never stops flashing is because of the air leak the car never really reaches proper leveling. I know what your thinking, "I didn't have extra weight in the car"..doesn't matter car still levels itself from time to time without extra load in the rear. Possible road conditions etc. and also the fact your basically riding around with only one rear shock working like it should. hope this helps......dave
