Question about 1992 Ford F250

1 Answer

We have a 1992 Ford F250. The engine and transmission work great but the body is all rusted out. We would like to drop our engine etc into a different body. What years can I search for that will work?

1992-1994 are virtually identical, but 1987-91 are pretty close as well. 1995-96(7)

if the frame isnt rusted out to the point of failure, I would just replace the body panels, and cab. cabs from 87-96 are close enough to swap pretty easily, 1980-86 will work too with a little more work. beds 1987-96(7) are identical, 1980-86 will bolt up, but wheelwells are styled different. fenders doors ect are easily available from body shop supply or lmctruck.com

Where is the transmission modulator located on my 1992 f250?

It should be mounted at the back of the transmission, near the tailshaft. You should see a vacuum hose connected to it.

Transmission is slipping

once the tranmission starts slipping that is the end of the useable life for the tranmission, u will need an overhaul, sorry there is no repair other than that for slipping conditions.

I just replaced the transmission in my 1992 Ford F 250. It ran great the first day. The next day it wouldn't shift out of 2nd gear. My mechanic suggested I take the battery cables off to reset the code....

Did you replace the transmission yourself? If so and the failed unit you replaced left debris in the fluid...did you flush out the lines and cooler... we have even added external cooler and eliminate internal radiator cooler if a unit had a catastrophic failure due to debris in lines\cooler... ford tranny's are especially susceptible to dirt\debris in fluid and could cause shift hang.

good luck

Exhaust removal required to drop transmission on 92 Ford Ranger?

Yes you do. trust me you don't want to get that thing half way out and down and not be able to continue. Soak those rusted exhaust studs in a good penetrating oil over night. I bet they come right out. I would not recomend cutting the pipe.

TRUCKS COMPATIBLE WITH MY TRUCK'S MOTOR

yes but if you have emmisons in your area the engine must meet or exceed the year of the truck you put it in, so if it does not meet emmisons for the year your putting it on it would be illegal.

Bad gas milage

I know they didn't get the greatest fuel mileage, but I've worked on motorhomes that got better. Something doesn't sound right. You've checked all the obvious like, sticky calipers/brakes, proper size & pressure on wheels/tires, transmission shifting as it should, proper front end alignment, etc.? Oxygen sensor changed lately?
