I would keep an eye out for oil leaks more than computer problems. Most oil seals are relatively cheap to buy, but the labor it takes to replace them can get very expensive.

Are they a reliable car. Do they have any major flaws. Are they expensive to service. I'm looking at buying one.

You did not mention what type of car it was. In any case, you can check out the reliability and owner comments by using google and checking the vehicle reliability statistics. You will find lots of good information in this way.

Why want 05 duramax start

Are any light's lite on dash ? check engine ? There are a lot of electronic components on these vehicles. Fuel Injector Control Module for one. Crank sensors,
fuel rail pressure sensor , engine computer (ECM) and you should have a professional grade scan tool to work on these vehicles . You could look on YouTube, there are a lot of guys that post auto repair videos there, even ones on diesel's with no start problems.

coming from a professional standpoint you own a terrible car. let me explain why, most of the contours i've worked on have had defective wiring harnesses in them. the insulation on the heavy positive cables from the battery to the fuse box and starter etc. starts to crumble and flake off creating possible endless amounts of shorts and other electrical problems. i don't know if this is the cause of your current problem but something you need to consider. i'm not knocking ford i own and drive 2 ford trucks one is just a spare. as far as american cars go ford is in my opinion the best but if you want to buy a car you don't have to work on allot, as long as you maintain it properly, buy a honda. as a professional mechanic the last thing in the world i want to do is work on my wife's car so when she wanted a newer car i made her buy a honda product. she wound up finding a used pilot and has loved driving it ever since.

I just bought an audi A4 ffrom a dealer last night. we checked everything before buying it and compared different audis. we chose the one at the dealer because the other one we looked at from a private...

it can be many things. You will need to have the ECU scanned with an OBD2 scan tool. This will retrieve the code that has been set by the ECU. This code will not tell you what part is defective but will tell you what part is being effected. If you just bought the car my advice would be to take it back to the selling dealer and have them repair it. In most states a dealer must give you a 30 day warranty on the emissions system. It may be the dealer reset the check engine light and knew about this all along. It would then take a few driving cycles for the light to come back on. I am not saying they did this but it is possible. The bottom line is that you will have to have the ECU scanned and then a trained professional can use that code to know where to start looking for the problem. It is not easy for a novice to know what to replace especially if the car is running good. The scan will tell you where to look. I would pursue the selling dealer for the repair. If he refuses, then contact your state attorney general to see what the law is concerning this in your state.

I posted a question two hour ago and still havn't got an answer! Last night I had to put a battery in my 1999 VW Cabrio to get it home . Then today I put a diferent battery in it. Now it won't start I...

I would start by checking fuses, could be a relay problem too, but i really am leaning twoards a fuse, if all check out maybe swap around relays to see if you get fuel pressure, start looking for broken ground wire, maybe wire by the starter, see if you can get a scanner to communicate with the computer, i work on alot of vw's and audis so if all checks out fine let me know i will see if i can find anything else for you to check.

2005 Audi A4 1.8T check engine light just came on and the car feels like its going to putt out when at a stop

You'll need to have your check engine light scanned to get that code(s) to pinpoint the issue. Anything could cause that light to come on... Bad EGR, bad TPS, bad igntion system, etc

audis have a big problem with there front suspension struts.. they always fail and its a very common occurence. it sounds like this could be your problem.. it should be fixed as it can damage bearings in your car and other parts.. the noise should be coming from 1 side only tough.. unless both are failing. this might be the problem

1996 Audi A6 Quattro has a noisy rear differential

Can you give some more information about this? Is it only when your speed is up at highway speed levels, or do you hear it at lower speeds too? Does it ever get louder or quieter under any driving conditions or maneuvers? The reason I ask is that it could actually be a rear wheel bearing (they're known to go bad on this generation of Audis - heck, I just changed one on my A4 last week and now that it's quiet, I can hear the other rear bearing starting to go). If you can give some more info on this problem, we can try to narrow it down.

Ticking sound

hey
does the ticking noise sound like it is in the steering system or coming from the engine area when turning the wheel. I doubt there is any problem with the turbo or oil filter causing the problem, however you should find another shop to try to remove the filter. Do you have any check engine light on in the car. I know you said you do not trust the dealer but they are the most knowledgeable when it comes to your car. Especially since the Audi is a car a lot of shops are not familiar with. We service a lot of Audis and have not seen alot of problems that would cause you not to keep the car. If you don't want to go to the dealer you must find a shop that specialize in Audi/Vw repair
