Usually, there is a small hole that the long jack handle can fit into, look around the bumper area, you may have to open doors for access to it, this has a winch, turn counter clockwise to lower, usually....

I only suggest using factory tune up parts. Don't forget to set you tire pressure according to the driver's door sticker.

Spare tire removal 2003 gmc sierra how to release secondary latch? owners manual is no help. cable comes down spare comes down about 3 inchs thats all

You must unwind (counter clockwise) with the tire tools that come with the truck, sometimes the cable gets jammed on the spool it may take 2 people to get it loose, one must pull down on the spare while the other unwinds it. Try not to get under the tire as it is heavy.

2003 chevy surb... can not release my spare tire...cable is broken ,,,nothing to pull on help !

If when you turn the crank nothing happens to drop the tire. Look up inside and see if the cable is loose (most likely not) if not the assembly is broken, you will have to cut the plate that holds tire up and replace the spare tire cable and crank assembly.

I tried to remove spare tire but it will only drop about 2 inches which is not enough to remove it. Any suggestions?

Check your owners manual .There is a saftey catch that will need to be realased by using your bottle jack and tire stops that come with your truck. If you dont have a owners manual. What you can try is taking a floor jack and a socket place it under the spairtire right in the center where the cable holds the tire in place. start jacking it up until the socket hits the square part in the center once the socket is aligned with the square part continue to jack up it should release it . Its a stupid system but it will work if the cable wont allow the tire to drop .I drive a tow truck and this has happened to me several times with people who have this type of system on a GM.
