I had a shake on my bmw 2006 325i used accident car and took it to a shop they first said it was the crankshaft problem and later told me the crankshaft hub needed to be replaced ,they installed the hub and now they said car would not start because it needs timing.Am confused and want to know how much that might cost me for the timing.

they said the crankshaft needs to be aligned and timed with a special tool.

  • adanne84 Sep 05, 2010

They said the tools was not in the united state, that it would take them 2.5 weeks to get it but i told them the car was assembled in the states and they told me they will see what they can do but it would cost me 1500 for the labor. i don't know if that is because am a lady and they believe i do not know anything about cars. i really appreciate your response and still confused.

for one take that shop to court there jucing the hell out of ya replacing the same parts over and over agian. 2nd wd 40 the bushings on the lower connects that will take care of the squeaks and have a mechanic install some grease fittings down there so u can grease them. apparently in the turn of melinium cars the didnt come stock that way from the factory. meaning u had to have a mech do it when the part wore out or broke found that out the hard way. take you recipets and take those ***** mechs to court then use that money and get it done right

Have someone who knows what they are doing try to pull the code, instead of erasing it and telling you it's fine. That is a no go. I would say lots of hesitation could have to do with the crankshaft position sensor, camshaft position sensor, etc.

Battery keeps dieing..jump start and runs for a few days and dies

Humm ...Didn't die before the accident? now dies? BMW has good mechanics, but could not find any problem???. I gota think that it is related to the rear ending, but how? I would look for loose connections, Battery Ground that might have been removed before welding.Battery terminals, Any primary connections that may not be making 100% contact . It's worth a try.Good Luck

Engine shaking

Its the crankshaft sensor. this sensor, when bad, will send mixed signals to the engine CPU that will through of timing dramatically. replace the sensor asap.

Front end shaking

I had the same problem on a 2003 Kia Sedona where the front end would vibrate excessively while accerating at freeway speeds. Over time it got worse and was noticable at lower and lower speeds and while just maintaining speed, but went away when I took my foot off the gas.

It turned out to be the inner CV joint on the passenger side. You can check for this by grabbing the inner and outer half axels with large vice grips or slip-joint pilers and turning them in opposite directions while listening for crunching or "loose parts" noises.

The CV is sold with the axle so I just bought the outer half axle for $80 (which has the inner and outer CV joints attached) and replaced it. If you do it yourself, make sure you have a ball spline fork, a hub puller tool, and a big torque wrench for putting the bearing assembly back on. You can rent these at AutoZone.

The bad CV joint also caused the bearing to go bad. It had burn marks and made a grinding noise while turning. It was very hard to get out, so I had to take the assembly to a machine shop to have it taken out and the new one put in. $35 for bearing and $30 for machine shop work.

After repair, I took an 800 mile road trip that weekend with no problems other than barely noticable vibration from the driver side at 70+ mph. I figure vibration was so bad pre-repair that it messed up something on the other side as well, so I'll check out the driver side bearing and CV when I get a chance.
