Where is the speed sensor located on a 1997 avenger dodge

I'm not 100% sure if you got the right sensor. What you need is the output speed sensor not the input. if your looking under the hood of your car it will be on the front of the transmission the input is directly above the TCM and the output will be about 6 inches up and to the right of that.

Location of 1996 dodge avenger input an output speed sensor

According with repair manual, output speed sensor is located on the Transmission, generally positioned over the park gear and monitors transmission output shaft rotating speed; check some details in the next image...

  • The Output speed sensor is located on the transmission as indicated in the diagram I have put up. They just twist out. Easy fix.

THE INPUT SPEED SENSOR IS LOCATED JUST TO THE LEFT OF THE OUTPUT SENSOR..ABOUT 2-3 INCHES AWAY..SAME IDEA..2 WIRE PLUG AND IT UNSCREWS FROM TRANSMISSION..YOU WILL PROBABLY HAVE TO REMOVE THE TRANS CONTROLLER AND BRACKET FOR ACCESS..I HOPE THIS HELPS

I WOULD TRY REPLACING THE INPUT SPEED SENSOR..A DEFECTIVE SPEED SENSOR CAN CAUSE ALL OF THESE FAULTS..IT IS LOCATED IN FRONT OF TRANS ABOVE SOLENOID PACK..IT IS THE ONE CLOSEST TO THE ENGINE..IT SCREWS INTO TO TRANSMISSION..A 1 INCH SOCKET FITS IT..ALSO CHECK WIRING TO BOTH SPEED SENSORS..A SENSOR IS ABOUT 35 BUCKS,AVAILABLE AT YOUR LOCAL DODGE DEALER..GET A NEW ONE AND YOU'LL SEE WHAT IT LOOKS LIKE..FAIRLY COMMON PROBLEM..HAVE REPLACED LOTS OF THEM

Location of speed sensor a for 99 dodge intrepid

The "Vehicle Speed Sensor" signal is generated by the transmisson output speed sensor. That is the one located at the rear of the case. It is externally mounted. That supplies "vehicle speed" info to the other On-Board Computers. The input turbine speed sensor is located just behind the bell housing area of the case. I believe the trans controller is the only module that needs that info. The Crank Position Sensor give engine RPM info and it is located on the bell housing near the engine block. I hope this helps.
