The harmonic balancer on end of cranck is probably the problem easy fix if you have an impact wrench and a 23mm socket and wheel puller

you answered my question about my 1993 jeep wrangler making the knocking noise, would that also cause my oil pressure to drop, it will idle good for about two good minutes then start dropping oil pressure and then the clanging starts

Have the torque converter checked to make sure the bolts are not loose connecting it to the flywheel, and if it is in the engine(the knock)then remove the oil pan,and check for play in the rod bearings,if there is,the crankshaft would have to be resurfaced,or replaced along with new rod,and main bearings.

hello, sounds like you have bad rod bearing, or rod cap could be wore out, try lucas oil if it does not quiet down then you probably have rod bearing going out, wouldnt drive unless you have too. untill you get checked

It could very well be a valve or lifter. The low oil may also cause the lifters or rods to knock.
As long as you aren't loosing oil or coolant, jeep runs good, and the knocking is not extreme, than add oil and you should be ok.

Knocking noise in engine 1998 jeep cherokee

Knocking noise can come from one of three places. Broken flywheel, Worn rod or main bearing. (bearing problems usually are accompanied by lowered oil pressure) An experienced technician can usually tell which is which. If bearing wear is on the rod bearings only and is light, it can usually be corrected. Main bearings require engine removal and is far more expensive. The oil pump should be replaced with either, but is not the cause of the problem. Extreme wear on bearings will also damage crankshaft. If so, it must be replaced.

A few questions for you how many miles on the engine? have you had regular oil changes done? This model should have the 4.0 liter engine if so what you are describing sounds like rod knock. The 4.0L engine is designed to take allot of abuse and last for well over 200,000 miles but if regular oil changes are not done you are in for trouble. And the only way to fix rod knock to have the engine rebuilt.
