There is a plug either on the side or rear of the "big chunk in the middle" oil should run out of that plug when removed. If not add oil. most of the time its 75w90 but check the owners manual for the correct oil.

Rear axel leaking ford 1997 f 250

If it's leaking then it needs a gasket put on or RTV GASKET MAKER put on the cover or it's just simply cracked some how if it's the cover then take a drop pan drain the remaining fluid and clean both surfaces very good possibly spotless then apply the RTV high torque grey sealant gasket maker very thick around the edge and center where the bolts are and re apply the cover but make sure it lines up and is very clean inside also if it's a slip posi rear end you will need a bottle of friction conditioner and 3 1/2 bottles of motor craft differentail fluid as recommended by ford and remove the filler plug after the RTV is dry and refill the rear axel and if it remains to leak either you sealed the cover wrong or bad plug otherwise the axel is cracked and needs to be replaced

My car was serviced on Tuesday. The axel seal was replaced. 3 days later my transmission blew. I have heard from other people that fluids needed to be drained in order to do the axel seal work. What...

Generally you will loose some fluid when you replace a seal. Your problem is that you really can't tell how much was lost or if any was added after job completion. A seal can also fail if there was an internal problem that caused fine metal contamination of the fluid.
An experienced rebuilder can often tell what happened by examining the internal metal components such as the planetary gear set. If they are blued from heat, it's a good bet that they ran dry.
One factor that may work against you is that the unit had a leak. Obviously, if the seal was leaking, it's also possible that by the time the seal was replaced, the transmission was already running low for some period of time and regardless of seal replacement would have failed exactly when it did, or perhaps a day or two earlier. There is no way of seeing inside the unit, so whoever replaced the seal would have no way of knowing if the transmission was about to fail..

Its leaking gear oil

Leaks on the rear differentual can usually occur at 3 places the axle housing,or at the axel shaft oil seals. If it were to be the axel housing gasket it would be visible around the housing cover. Also inspect the axel housing slip yoke seal this will also be visible. The next seals you want to check would be the axel shaft seals. In order to get to these seals you will have pull the tires and drums.Once you have them off take a flashlight and look behind the axel end for any oil leaking. Those would be the only places it would leak oil.

How do you add transmission fluid to a sealed transmission, 2002 lincoln LS

the transmission is sealed so you shouldn't have to add fluid unless there is a leak find the leak first to add fluid there is a bolt on the right side of the trany i think that's where you add the fluid but you will have to use a pump because of the angle.

Transaxel leaks transmission fluid

was the seal put in correctly. there is a certain way that a seal must be installed. generally i like to bake sure that there are no burrs on the shaft that slides through the seal. also the rubber part of the seal is usualy dry and they should have given you seal grease to soften it up before installation. did you use a seal driver to install the seal? trying to just tap it in with just a hammer will usually damage it and then it will leak. double check to make sure it was the right seal it's been known to happen that you go and buy a seal and you get home and it's the wrong one. i'm sure the problem is a a mis installed seal. unfortunately when you remove the seal you will not be able to reuse it due to the damage . you will have to purchase another one. hope this helps. please rate this solution....thanks

LEAKING FRONT AXIL SEAL

take the wheel off , unbolt caliper and sling it out of the way with a bungi cord, take off the rotor, then you have too take the pumpkin cover off the axel diff in the front (drain fluid first) easy way to do that take out bottom and side bolts out then leave top 1 or 2 in but finger loose. pry cover off with a sturdy scrapper from side allowing fluid to leak out from bottom of cover. when fluid is done comeing out then take off cover. to take the axel out to replace the seal you have to push the axel inwards to remove the C- CLIP on the end of the axel shaft that slides into the inside of the pinion gear (use a extending magnet) keeps gear oil on your hands and from dropping it into the pumpkin housing. then all you have to do is slide the axel shaft out. then replace the seal .
