If the starter just clicks the armature in the starter shorted out from water getting inside of it. Also drain the engine oil and check for water mixed with it. If you drove fairly fast enough in the deep water. the pressure of the water forcing against the engine seals leaked into the engine. This can twist the connecting rods which will lock the engine so it will not turn fully

if you did try to start the engine and holding the key for a minute the starter will be guaranteed fried for sure. I have seen my share of vehicles that went through deep water and all that where pulled out and were tried to start the starters all were burnt inside. Water is a conductor to any type of electric so the heaviest part of the starters winding will melt down.

take a ratchet and socket and try and turn the crankshaft one revolution. if it turns 360 degrees the engine should be fine, drain the oil and get another starter before trying to start this engine again

if the engine only turns so much and not a full revolution the piston rods are bent
A replacement engine is the cheapest way to repair it

When the fan hits water, it really throws it around.
If it was salt water, you should really have washed it out very carefully, and still should be in a hurry to do so.
But fresh water is not too bad.
You may need to clean the connections to the battery and engine ground strap.
You might also want to turn the engine over by hand a bit, (remove the plugs if you have to), to make sure the water did not get into the cylinders.
Then if the solenoid on top of the engine just clicks, and the starter does not want to turn, it would seem the solenoid or the starter is bad.
Water could have corroded the contacts in the solenoid. You can get the solenoid separate from the starter, but it may be easier to just get a new starter.
Although I would assume the starter should still be under warranty.

Might be hydrolocked
pull the plugs and crank the engine
if water comes flying out then you found the problem

I had a similar situation and after some research, I discovered it was doing what many referred to as "Phantom Stalling" It would only happen once in a while and when I wanted the mechanic to see it, it never happened for him.

Keep an eye every so often on your RPM gauge (beside the speedometer) and see if it cuts out completely and does not move when you speed up (shows 0 even though your still in in drive and moving). Mine would do that and after a few minutes the car would stall and I would have a hard time starting it back up.

What I found out was that my "Crankshaft sensor" had gone bad. I picked up a new one at AutoZone and had the mechanic replace it.

My car has not stalled since Ive had the sensor replaced and I found that when I was ideling, the idle was a lot smoother than befor.

Hope this helps you.

2000 KIA Sportage

Living in Thailand I had a lot of stalling problems. It started with my engine not running smooth when driving away cold. After half a km or so the car would just die or after even a longer distance stalling at full speed. Restarting worked and mostly I could drive on. Sometimes it would stall in a traffic jam.

Checked everything, but could not really put 1 and 1 together until I noticed that I was loosing a little cooling liquid and kept refilling on a regular basis. Found that every time this problem occurred also the cooling liquid was low again. Refilling the liquid solved the problem till the cooling liquid/water was low again. After fixing the actual leaking hose the problem disapeared totally. Later when my radiator started leaking slightly the problem came back as before. Now the car is fitted with a new radiator no problems like this anymore for more then 1 year.
I think the engine management system of the KIA is very sensitive for low water and maybe the temperature changes coming with it.

Maybe worth checking?
