Follow the upper rad hose to the engine,This is where the thermostat is hiding.Take the two bolts out of the thermostat housing and the remove it,it may require a pry.Install the new thermostat only after removing all of the old gasket from the housing and the block. You should only do any of this after the engine cools and you have relieved the pressure, removed the rad cap.The water pump requires a bit more work, but once you get the belt off the engine then it will be obvious what you have to do.

To find the thermostat follow the top radiator hose. It should go into a metal fitting that has a metal clamp around it. There may be 2 bolts holding in place. Make sure that the engine is cool before trying to remove the hole. Place a container under the truck to catch the liquid. Slowly remove the hose. You should see the thermostat at the bottom of the thermostat housing. If you remove the thermostat be sure to have a new gasket. The thermostat should be less than $100.00. good luck

Can a bad heater core cause your vehicle to overheat? I have a 1994 GMC Suburban

I WOULD SAY NO BECAUSE WATER ONLY CIRCULATES WHEN YOU TURN ON THE HEATER, BUT IF YOUR VEHICHLE CONTINUES TO OVERHEAT IT COULD BE 5 THINGS. CLOGGED RADIATOR,RADIATER HOSES.THERMOSTAT,RADIATER FAN SENSOR OR THE WATER PUMP

1993 GMC Sierra SLE will not re-start after stopping and turning off the engine. It will start if you let it cool down for about 10-15 minutes.

Check manifold pressure sensor if present.
Check MAF sensor.
Check water temperature sensor.
Check O2 sensor.

My 02 gmc truck will overheat when pulling a load or excessive idleing. 6.0 motor. Replace thermostat, fan clutch, water pump, flushed and blew out radiator. Still will overheat??

I would run a cylinder leak tester. It sounds to be a cylinder head gasket leak. I assume there is no oil in the anti freeze, or anti freeze in the oil? They sell these "combustion leak tester" on ebay for around $30. easy to use. If this is not problem then you will almost certainly need a new radiator

I have an 1995 GMC Sierra Truck that overheats whenever I drive for more than 20min. with the A/C on .What can the problem be ?

Your thermostat may need to be replaced and your water pump may be weak and need to be replaced also. Try replacing the thermostat and flushing out the coolant system and replacing it with new antifreeze. Also inspect the radiator hose, check for the condition there in, if there too soft and when they get hot, the hose may collapse and restrict the flow of antifreeze though the system. After that has been done and you are still over heating, the water pump could be weak and needs to be replaced. Recap: service the cooling system with new 50/50 mix antifreeze, replace the thermostat and replace any coolant hose that is soft. Good luck and hope this helps, keep me posted, be glad to help.

Over heating

with a 1993 you do not want to run it with out the thermostat it will damage the engine but you might want to try getting a low temp thermostat from advance auto parts and try that
