Question about 2003 Lexus RX 300
P0446 - Evaporative Emission Control System Vent Control Circuit Malfunction.
Hi. The evaporative vent valve has only one purpose. It closes to seal the vent so that the evaporative system can pressurize and ensure there are no leaks. Evaporative vent valve is usually supplied Battery voltage with the ignition key on. The ECM's driver controls the ground circuit, and when grounded, activates the valve. If the ECM detects a short to ground, and open,or a short to your battery voltage on the control circuit, This P0446 will set. This Code also may refer to your ECM detecting that the evaporative system is unable to achieve or maintain vacuum during test, as well. Here are a few possible causes for this code:
1.Faulty vent valve
2.Open, short or excessive resistance on Vent valve control circuit
3.Blockage of vent valve
4.Defective PCM/ECM<--------Not likely but possible
First; Check the power and ground circuits that lead to the vent valve that is malfunctioning at this time. Make sure that all wiring and connectors to and form the engine computer are sound and not loose or ripped form their respective locations. If the circuits are ok, simply, replace the evap vent control valve.
