I have a VW Turbo jetta and it was driving very good. Just recently when I step on the gas to pass or speed up, the turbo will kick in and then all of a sudden it starts to hesitate and backfires. If I drive it nicely, it doest do this. no engine light or any sign that i can see. I do have a chip and it is set in Pump mode not stock. Please help. My mechanic can not find the problem

I would think that the waste gate/ solenoid is not operating properly. If there is a different chip, it could trick the computer to not trigger a check engine light. Reset the system to stock and get a baseline set. If it acts good when stock, it could be programming. Let me know.

Yes I have set the chip back to stalk and the problem seems to go away. But I do like the extra performance when it is set in pump mode. How can I fix this problem in order to have the chip in pump mode?

How do I build/repair a damaged wiring harness for a 1984 VW Jetta GL 1.6L non-turbo diesel 5 speed, manual steering?

You could try to just cut out the bad part and solder in the new wire to the good part of the old. Also clean up the affected area.

Oil leaking around turbo on 2000 jetta

If you are getting boost, your turbo is likely not blown. There is a banjo bolt connection for the turbo oil. If it has loosened, then it would be leaking oil on the outside of the turbo. A blown turbo leaks on the inside (I believe, though not positive).

I don't have a TDI, but have a VW 1.8T with a turbo I recently replaced.

There is really nothing to fix other than to replace the turbo. It is not a tough job (at least the 1.8T wasn't) though it took 11 hours to complete. So you should try to get the oil leak fixed (near too much heat to ignore) but should likely only need to replace if it's not providing boost, or making strange sounds.

My 04 VW Jetta blew thick white smoke from tailpipe after freeway drive. No indicator lights came on, all oil leaked out (after smoke started)... is this engine or could it be just the turbos? Right...

A new turbo charger is about $340, but you can buy the bearings and seals and rebuilt if yourself for about $100

It is not hard, and it does not take long to do.

I normally do not bother with synthetic, but with a turbo charger, it might be worth it. What really seems to ruin turbo chargers the most is not letting them cool off before parking.
Once you turn off the engine, there is no longer any cooling, so the build up heat will burn up the oil and seals.
Run the engine for at least 5 minutes below turbo levels, before shutting down the engine.

My 2000 VW Jetta TDI suddenly lost power on the interstate. It seemed that it took twice the RPMs to keep the same speed. Is this the turbo kicking off? At lower speeds it feels as if it does not change...

Most likely its your transmission slipping You will need to have it checked by a mechanic if the rpm is double then it has nothing to do with the turbo, if it's a automatic it means the clutches are slipping or if it's a standard it means the clutch is slipping from being worn out or the pressure plate is wore out.

1999 volkswagon Jetta TDI no power

[yes ]is the simple answer, a turbo starved of engine oil pressure even for a short period of time can blow the turbo; fit a new or a good second hand turbo.[hint]when testing a second turbo put your finger inside the turbo and spin it .a good turbo should spin quite easly for 3/4seconds with no noise.hope this helped you.adrian
