Question about Volkswagen Jetta

1 Answer

My daughters 1997 Jetta has two vacuum lines going into the air filter. Per the service manual they are or least one of them is for the thermal vacuum valve (TVV) for intake air preheating. Question is which one goes where? They were pulled off but I cannot determine which one goes where?

Wont go faster than 20 mph. could it be a vaccum leak

Get the spark plugs and fuel filter checked. If the plugs are fouled or fuel filter is got clogged, then such problem can occur.Other possibility is catalitic convertor is totally clogged. This can happen suddenly.Try cleaning this parts and check. If that makes any difference.----- If still the problem, then check the IAC valve and tps sensor.First clean both sensor and valve. Also get the throttle body checked. Both iac valve and tps sensor located on throttle body. You can use throttle cleaner to clean this part and check. If still the same problem, then yes it can be the vacuum line issue. The vacuum hose in engine compartment is loose or vacuum line is leaking. And causing this problem---------- Getting this possibilities checked will help to confirm the problem.Thanks.Helpmech,'

Ive purchased used 1997 vw jetta with 2.0, want to change oil and filter, any recommendations/instructions

I would go with a good synthetic oil and a Fram oil filter. A oil filter wrench maybe helpful. Also check the belts, hoses and air filter/fuel filter and all other fluid levels.

92 VW Jetta ran great one day and wouldn't start again. Daughter ran it out of gas, changed the plugs, put gas and gas line anti freeze still nothing. thinking fuel filter, are there 2 filters? and where...

First, you should Make sure that is the problem. Usually if your filter is clogged enough to kill the car, if you wait 10 to 15 minutes the car will restart. The fuel will eventually seep thru the filter. You more likely have a relay or fuel pump problem if it is fuel. Try removing the air filter and spraying carb cleaner into the intake, if it is a fuel problem, it will start. If it is a spark problem it will not. Most vehicles have a filter inline about half-way between the tank and the engine underneath the car. If you jack the car, trace the 2 lines from the fuel tank tds. the engine. There will probably be a cover to protect the filter.

The MAF is in-line with the air filter intake tube. Just locate the intake tube and follow it to the air filter box. There should be a wire connector in between, that's your MAF. You should be able to remove it with a phillips screwdriver and a 10mm wrench.

I need a how to install a air compressor on my VW 97 Jetta GLX

You'll need to disconnect the high and low pressure lines from the compressor. Unplug the electrical connector for the compressor. Remove the belt. Unbolt the compressor from the motor. Reinstall, connect a vacuum pump to the high side A/C fitting, start the vacuum pump, run pump until to have about 15psi of vacuum and then disconnect the pump and refill with refrigeraint.

Stumbles on acceleration

Well, I would replace the air filter, make sure the air hose from the air filter to the intake is not kinked or blocked and check for vacuum leaks. If these are all fine, I would check the fuel pressure as it is possible the pump is weak and not supplying enough fuel.

1997 Jetta , where is the compartment air filter located.

it should be under the left hand side of the front winscreen trim, there should be an access panel with for scew head clips. Pull these about half way out and you should be able to get to the pollen filter, be careful with these panels when the car is cold as they crack
