I have a 1991 mercury capri. Tonight when i was driving home the tail lights and dash lights quit working and the headlights were very very dim. Is this a broken fuse problem or something else?

Check your alt.. alt voltage output should be at least 13.2, sounds like it's not charging and your possibly running off the battery, as for the dash and tail lights, there both on the same system, check the fuse.

Where is the headlight motor relay located on a 1991 mercury capri

Under the radio. You should hear a click when it operates. If it clicks and the headlights don't raise, then the headlight motor cams need to be cleaned

How to chang headlight lift motors on 1993 Mercury Capri

This applies to all 1991 to 1994 Capri

1. Raise headlamps to the normal operating position and open hood.
2. Remove the windshield washer reservoir or coolant reservoir, depending on which headlamp
assembly requires servicing.
3. Remove bezel and headlamp. Route wiring away from headlamp assembly.
4. Remove four screws and cover from headlamp assembly.
5. Remove four bolts retaining headlamp assembly to body.
6. Unplug connector from motor and remove headlamp assembly.
7. Remove nut retaining linkage to motor.
8. Remove three retaining bolts and motor.

If you have another motor, you can install it now and assemble in the reverse order. Make sure that when you put the linkage back on that it has the headlight in the raised position like before.

Your motor may not be bad just because it doesn't come up. If you take the 5 or so screws off the motor assembly, you'll see were some copper wipers make contact to a circular gear. Where they make contact could simply be dirty. Clean the gear with light sandpaper to get the copper on the gear shiny, then put it back together. You can test the motor now by plugging it back in and operate the may just work correctly...

New Battery Installation (Problems)

I would remove the battery and give it a good charge. New batterys require a low amp over night charge. A cars altenator isn't designed to charge a battery it's made to maintain the battery to it's fullest ability. The headlights opening and closing would indicate to me a low voltage, causing the relays for the headlights not to fully shut or open. Let me know if this solves your issue, if not we can trouble shoot farther. Thank you for using
