Question about 1996 Dodge Caravan

1 Answer

My windshield wipers come on at random times.... with no key in the ignition, often when i am not even in the car! they will not shut off till they are ready to- wiggling the on/off dial, etc., just makes them stay on longer. I hate my windshield getting scratched up as they stay on for 20-30 passes, plus the stares from people as my wipers merrily go back and forth, totally unstoppable. I am a single mom, not much money to spare. I have no other problems with this van. I am thinking the quickest immediate solution would be to disconnect the fuse for now. Where is it? Thanks! Ann

It's actually easier to pop the hood and disconnect the windshield wiper motor connector. ;

a known problem with GM wiper motors were the circuit boards which may be replaced seperate on some models. also would cause what we call a park issue meaning not stopping at bottom of the windshield. hope this helps.

I am having the same problem on my 08 wrangler sahara unlimited. I was told it was because of a loose battery connection. I checked and the connections are fine.

My automatice wiper won't turn off on thier own

It has auto wiper control. Yank your wiper stick 1 notch down. The windshield should be free of rain droplets or else it would think it is still raining and operate it in auto mode. In auto mode it will shut off when it doesn't sense rain droplets on the windshield or removing the key from the ignition. Once it is off, it can only operate in auto mode by moving the lever 1 notch up while raining. Yours must be in the 1st speed manual selected position of the lever. Every time the ignition is switched on the wiper operates regardless until key is removed from the switch.

Volvo 850 windshield wipers

The 13mm nuts that attach the wiper arms to the pivot assembly loosen with time. Pop up the plastic caps and tighten the nuts. Make sure the wipers are in the park position i.e. set the wiper switch in the off position before shutting the ignition off - otherwise you might tighten the wiper arms in the wrong position and they would try to go places they shouldn't :)
