Steering wheel is turned to the left with the wheels straight. When I make a right turn, it sounds like something is dragging on the road.

Okay "guru", YES I looked under the car. I PARKED the car in my driveway when it started and rode my bike to work. I need REPAIR information, not BITCHING!

most obvious answer is the track rod end has snapped off but if you can jack the car up you will see whats draging and we can go from there
sorry re last comments but you would be amazed at what people are driving around in and last thing we want is some ?????? killed.

Okay goeffreyh. The tie rods are okay but the cv axle on the front left is bad. I shouldn't be able to rotate the wheel when the transmission is in park. My biggest problem is that I don't have all of the tools needed and I really don't feel up to the task. Brakes yes but not this.

Mercedes ml270cdi when turning left or right the steering wheel is unstable but ok on a straight road.

Check the steering column shafts. The have universal joints that wear out. Might want to check the rack and pinion also. Make sure the main part isn't moving when some one is turning the wheel. But they should have caught that with the wheel alignment.

2004 Toyota highlander steering wheel is locked but turned halfway, key wont turn and wheels are straight

there is a load on the lock pin in the steering column try turning the steering wheel a bit left or right to release the pin as you try turning the key.
Steering wheel locks never lock straight ahead as the idea is that if the car is being stolen it will turn a circle rather that move straight

My car is Honda Civic 1995 model. When I drive it on an irregular road or even on straight road it's steering moves left and right. It did not have complete grip on the road. It seems like the where ever...

Hi, to me the problem sounds like the track rod ends need replacing these are what connects the steering to the hub now when you turn the wheel the track rod ends push the hubs in the way you want to turn but what happens ball joint on the track rod end get play in it is it allows the wheels to turn slightly on their own left and right now once these have been replaced you will have no problems.
if the ball joints where to break you would lose control of the car as the steering wheel would not turn the wheels as instructed and they would be free to turn any way they liked, this would cause damage to the front wings and the hub costing a fortune to put right, but as it stands the track rod ends cost very little to buy and dont cost much to get replaced.

how ever this isnt the kind of job you can do yourself as you would need to get the tracking set up to ensure the wheels are driving in a strait line as their is adjusters that need to be set up after the track rod ends are fitted.

once you have the track rod ends ( tie rods also known as) fitted you will have no further problems and you will then be in full control of your vehicle it will feel a lot more responsive to your control so this needs doing sooner rather than later.

Drag link adjustmnet

Your desctiption sounds like your settings are incorrect. I reccomend that an alignment shop adjust for you.

A common mistake on this type of project is steering box centerning. to test, from straight ahead, stop.., turn wheel from dead center to the stop, and measure exactly how many turns. From dead center, it must be the same both ways.

Steering boxes have an exact center setting, and get looser (so to speak) as turned right or left off of that spot. SOOO, if set to one side or the other, steering gets tighter when turning in one direction as compared to the other.

Get an alignment shop to set this up, it is common problem.

VW touareg steering judder low speed left/right turn

Sounds like you have air in your steering system. I would start by looking for any leaks on your steering system like hose to fitting crimps, steering pump, etc. Check your steering fluid level to make sure it is full and also look for bubbles on the dip stick. If everything looks good, start the vehicle and turn the wheels all of the way to the left and then to the right. Do this while the vehicle is in park and repeat at least 5 times. This will work out any air in your steering system. If the problem persists then the power steering pump may need to be replaced.

Esp/bas light on, steering wheel off center after off roading

If your steering wheel is off center, this can cause the problem. Luckily this is very easy to fix -- you can do so even if you have little to no experience working on your vehicle.
1. Park the vehicle with the wheels facing straight ahead (drift forward until you are moving in a straight line). Don't worry about the steering wheel position. 2. Locate the steering drag link -- the diagonal rod coming from the bottom of the steering arm to the top of the passenger side steering knuckle (on the axle near the tire) 3. Loosen the two bolts on the rotating adjustment collar on this link. I believe these are 13mm. 4. Rotate the collar one way about two or three turns, check the steering wheel to ensure that the "Jeep" logo is perfectly horizontal. If it's not, continue rotating the collar (or move it in the opposite direction) until the wheel is centered. 5. Tighten down the nuts on the drag link adjuster. 6. Take her for a test drive and let me know how it worked!
