Remove two bolts holding caliper on and pull up as hard as you can on the caliper. Wiggling back and forth at the same time helps.

SOURCE: Steering problem 1997 Dodge Ram

the half shaft does not need to go in a certain way, Just as long as you get it in all the way. when checking steering play to see where it is. It's best to leave the truck off. Turn ignition on but dont start to unlock steering column, Then look by driverside tire while your buddy just turns the wheel only the amount of free play it has. Just back and forth usually a few inchs. till it starts getting tight. "Look at the steering shaft and you will see it turning back and forth. Then Look at the output on the pitman arm. It should move back and forth with steering shaft. slower but at the same rate. If it does not. you need a gearbox. but read up because you can adjust some of them with a locknot and screw on top of box. If it's ok. look at the drag link. And down the line. eventually you'l find the problem. Any more Q e-mail me at

Dodge steering gear box. How to identify the upper and lower seals to the Pittmann arm? Which way are they to be turned?

Im a little unclear about what your discribeing . But i think your asking witch side of the seal is up and witch is down. You need to look at the shaft that the seal is slideing over and the seal . The seal fits into a houseing and thats not going to leak . But the shaft that it seals againest will if the seal is upside down. In almost every case the side of the seal thats open has a grove that you can look inside of it and see a metal spring going around the inner lip of the seal goes to the inside of the compount . Look at the shape of the inner lip of the seals . And on a 2008 you shouldn't be haveing this problem its likely a front end problem that caused this or an oil leak in the power steering pump more likely the front end pitman arms are solid and vary strong as is the gear box Good luck

Steering fluid leak; oil covering steering gear box

if the leak is coming from the steering box there are usually only 3 places it can come from;most common place is the pitman shaft seal, which can be replaced.this is were the pitman arm of the steering connects to the steering box.another place is the steering box input shaft seal, this is were the steering colume connects to the steering box, which can be replace.the last place is the power steering hoses were they connect to the steering box.there are seals that seal the lines when screwed into the box which can also be first you need to see exactly were the leak is coming from.rare occasions the steering box is porous which means the box will need replacing.a car of this age should have shown up long will have to clean the box off at the car wash then run the car and turn the steering wheel all the way to one side, this will build up pressure in the system to show up the leak quicker.

How to install power steering geat seal kit on a 2001 Dodge ram 1500 3.9l

I will tell you that theres a good change this will not work. have tried this many times and when the seal leaks that means the shaft or components in the gearbox are worn and the new seal will not last. you are better off replacing the gearbox, unless you completely dissassembly the box and check all components and machine accordly but this is time consuming and the shaft may need replacing. i quess you can try the seal but cross your fingers maybe it will work.

I need a steering box diagram to replace seals in a 01 dodge ram 1500 4x4!

I suggest that you replace the box with a rebuilt unit. If the seals fail, usually there is excessive clearance and new seals will fail soon.

The steering works fine but the input shaft seal is leaking. I need instructions on how to replace the seal.

Very carefully drill into the seal, after removing the circlip securing the seal in the box, with a 1/16" - 1/8" drill bit until you are through the seal. Then take a wood or sheet metal screw and thread it through the hole til the seal is forced up out of the gearbox. You can do this in the CJ by removing the steering shaft off the input shaft. Use a long (deep) socket to install the new one.

1999 dodge cummins 2500 front axel seals

you need to pull off wheels, brakes, rotor /unit hub bearing, both axles and intermediate shaft, as well as the vac disconnec ton the front axle tube. if only the right side leaks then only then only pull the right axle and intermediate shaft and vac disco. it is a trick with a miller tool to replace the seal. the left side seal is inside the diff and the carrier has to come out to replace it. pete
