Replaced everything but the power booster. brake light comes on. pedal low. have bleed the brakes. no leaks. pedal still low. but have some brakes just not up to normal position on the break pedal

Brake pedal height is determined almost exclusively by the rear brakes adjustment. turn the starwheel adjuster and spin the tire by hand until the tire begins to drag. more for firmer higer brake pedal. it is only too much if you smell the breaks while driving. an initial smell is normal as the shoes burn into position. sometimes you can drive in reverse and apply the brakes sharply for an "automatic" adjustment. but this could take many attempts and will only work if everything is clean and well lubricated.

There is probably still some air in your brake lines. you can try a gravity bleed by opening the bleeders one at a time for about 10 minutes each starting with right rear, then left rear, right front and finally left front. Make sure you keep the reservoir full while bleeding so as not to introduce more air. Also, be sure to clean up well after bleeding, as brake fluid is corrosive.

HArd brake pedal and low stopping power after changing brake booster


I had my power brake booster go bad and I replaced mine as well as bleed the brakes that when I went and tried them out 'I slammed on my breaks early before getting to close to the light' that my car left skid marks all over that road because the brakes worked like power brakes should and yours sound like your booster was installed wrong or the pads are bad or you didn't bleed all the air out of the line. Your problem you described was like it felt before I replace brake booster ie lousy non power brakes when I had power brakes.

Brake problem.


bleed the brakes again starting form the longest line back to the shortest
if you have been getting a pulsing feeling at the pedal under normal brakes you have warped rotors that need replacing or machining
under normal brakes the abs is not effective and it is only under sever brakes that you will experience the pulsations at the pedal

99 ford explorer brake pedal goes to floor. Booster or master cyl. ?


Not likely that the booster is an issue. The booster would not be able to overcome the brake fluid compression.
First open and inspect all brakes for leaks, adjustment, etc. Check all brake lines.
So if no leaks, did the fluid go low in the MC? If so, pad consumption would eat more than a MC reservoir of fluid, and not require MC replacement, but rebleeding and top up of fluid. If the pads are worn, and you replace them, often this will expel air back through the MC.

If you determine the MC is faulty, bench bleed the new one before install, or you will have lots of problems getting air out....

We have replaced everything to do with the brakes, vacuum booster, master cylinder, etc. We have done a complete bleed and still have no pedal when we start the car. Any ideas


Hi Friend:

#1) Check and make sure your Power brake boosters Hose is not Cracked or just not a tight fit going to Intake.

#2) Since you Have Rear Drum Brakes You might have left to much Brake to Drum Clearance==Ajust rear Brakes out to Just give you good clearance to slide Drum Over Brakes.

#3) Check all your Brake Lines for Possible leaks.

#4) CHECK to make sure your Accuating Rod from your Brake Pedal to your Power Brake Booster is in the Rear of Boosters Piston that whenb you apply brake its Acctuating the Power Booster.

#5) Also did you bench bled your Master before instaling? If not you'll have to bled your master clylinder 1st, and then Start at farest wheel from master cylinder and work your way to the brakes on front Drivers side.

#6) only other thing that comes to mind is your Anti Brake Module.

When applying brakes pedal get hard and car dosent want to stop this happens intermittedly


check your brake fluid in your car frequently. it is located under the hood on the right hand side. if it is low you have a leak in a brake line somewhere underneath the car. you may need to bleed the brakes. there are bleeders on all four wheels you must have someone applying pressure on the pedal when turning the bleeder to let all the air out of the lines. replace brake fluid after bleeding the brakes.

No brake pedal


sound's like a booster problem, providing the rod is seeted correctly to the master sylynder,the master is installed correctly and primed and wheel sylynder's are not leeking, double check your work,then i would start back at piont A .unfortunatly the booster may have to come back out. good luck

A few seconds after brakes are applied the pedal starts to fall to the floor. When I pump the brake pedal I here a hissing noise coming from the vacuum booster.


you have two problems here, your master cylinder has a leaking seal, the low pedal is resault, the power brake booster rubber diaphram is damaged and leaking from the brake fluid that is getting into it from the master cylinder, these are sold as a unit that has been rebuilt.

If you don't have any brake lines leaking, change the master cylinder, bench bleed the new one then bleed the blakes, starting with the right rear, left rear, right front, then left front. If the booster was gone, you would hear air leaking out of it when you pressed the pedal down.
