This is tricky, theres a cap on the top of the trany where you fill it but to check it the car must be level and warm, a lift would be nice it hard to do on the ground, if you look at the pass/side axle and follow it to the trany then look at the housing theres a small bolt cap, this has to be removed and with car running and level fluid should run out slowly when full if fluid pour out then let it drain until a small amout come out that the level and also make sure to run through gears before checking, the cap where you fill is atop its red, heres a picture or the check bolt. hope this helps and with a filter change it holds 6.9qts and uses dextron VI.Changing trans fluid, Done , put pan on with - 2bedecf.gif

How do I, automatic trans filter and fluid replacement.

i would not reccomend changing transmission fluid yourself. do not do it!!!

to change transmission fluid and filter, you have to take the tranny pan off the bottom of the tranny and it will make a mess of fluid. then you have to carefully remove the old tranny pan gasket, which is best done with a special machine. if you fail to remove all of the gasaket, or damage the lip of the pan while removing the gasket, then the new tranny seal will leak, and the tranny will not hold fluid. tranny fluid and filter needs to be done in a professional shop where they have the correct equiptment.

I want to know how to replace the transmission filter on a 2000 chevrolet venture

Remove the transmission pan, after pan is removed, the filter will be clearly visible. Pull straight down on the filter in a wiggleing fashion, it will pop right out of the transmission. Install new filter, clean out trans pan and magnet inside pan. Install trans pan and add approx. 2.5 qts. of new trans fluid. Start vehicle and let it get to operating temperature. Shift through all gears and re-check fluid level in trans. Add fluid as needed.
Done!

How to refill brake fluid in 1995 hyundai elantra?

Hello,

Manual trans: remove the filler plug (high up on the drivers side of the car... looking at it from underneath) stick a thin hose attached to a fluid pump into the trans until it touches the bottom then **** the old fluid out. then fill to the bottom of the fill plug hole with the correct oil (75W-80W gear oil), replace the filler plug.
Automatic trans: remove the drain plug on the pan, drain into a container, remove pan, clean or replace filter/screen, replace pan, fill with correct oil (not common Dexron II or III -- Hyundai ATF SP-II or Chrsyler spec 7176).

How do i service my transmission on a 2004 chevy trailblazer

transmission pan must be removed to drain fluid & change filter.loosen all pan bolts, remove all but 4 bolts @ corners.strike pan with a plastic hammer or block of wood if it's stuck. slowly remove remaining bolts, allowing fluid to drain into a suitable container.this can get messy, have rags handy.when drained, remove pan, clean pan & transmission gasket surfaces.pull filter straight down, push new filter on to tube, positioned as original, install new gasket,'run down 'all pan bolts then tighten them securely.

I have a 1995 Suburban do you think it is necessary to flush the transmission? I have heard several different opinions from flushing every couple of years to not doing it at all because the tranny can be...

1st let me make sure we agree on what a transmission flush is: the quick oil change places around here offer a transmission flush, when I asked what exactly was done (the price seemed far to cheap to include fluid, filter, and labor), I was informed that a tube is placed in the dip stick, and as much fluid as possible is drawn out, and new fluid added. In my opinion, this is a total waste, I advise that you don't do it. The reason is this: changing your trans fluid AND filter is great preventative maintenance for your transmission. By drawing out the fluid through the dip stick tube, you are still left with a dirty filter. Many vehicles have a magnet located in the pan, and it collects fine metal particles that occur from normal wear and tear. When the pan is removed to access the filter, this magnet can be cleaned, and any abnormal wear (pieces of metal, not fine stuff) can be observed when this is done. Not so with the 'flush'. So yes, service the tranny, but do it the right way.

I need instructions on how to change the transmission fluid & filter on a 1995 Olds Cutlass Supreme. I've done just about everything working on cars (pre '90's) except automatic transmissions.

for starters, if trans has not been regularly serviced , many problems will occur if vehicle has lots of miles on it and a service job is done. the new fluid has new detergents and better viscosity and causes metal / clutch particles to break free inside trans and stop filter up or stick valves in valve body. ( judgment call on owners part) , if lots miles and never serviced i would leave alone and just keep fluid topped off .
to service the transmission, first go to parts house and tell them the yr,model, make of vehicle. put vehicle on lift or jacks and there will be a large flat pan on the trans., pull all the ten mm bolts out , one left last to slowly let pan finish draining slowwly. make sure the vehicle hasnt been started or driven for a very short time as the fluid would then be hot and burn you. once the pan is off the trans. , there will be a large filter , it has a large rubber/steel groumet/seal that it pushes into. A flat head screwdriver can be put next to the neck of the filter and use the transmission case as a pry point to make the filter pop out of the filter seal. once this is done , the old seal for the filter needs to be removed. use the flat head screwdriver again and it will pop out of the hole its it, just dont get to ruff with it. put the tip into the seal neck and use the shaft of the screwdriver as leverage against the hole the fitler pushes into. next put a little lube of any kind on new seal on filter and with seal on filter push the filter into the hole until seated fully. next clean pan/and magnet inside pan thouroughly , wipe off the pan rail of trans case very well , leaving oil there will let pan gasket tear easy. causing leak. let oil drip awile before trying to put pan gasket and pan back on . i use break cleaner at auto parts alot to do all the cleaning. make shure bolt holes on pan are not domed from pan bolts over tightened previously. a ball pean hammers smaller end can be put ontop of bolt hole using another hammer to flatten raised bolt hole so that pan rail where gasket fits is flat. put 10mm bolt back using torque wrench at 110-140 inch pounds or till tight with ratchet and socket. dont overtighten , watch gasket between pan and trans case as you tighten bolts. if over tightening bolts, the gasket will squish out and cause a leak. let car down and put 4 quarts fluid it (dexron 3 fluid is ok) . after the 4 , start engine and with foot on brake , shift rev. to fwd a couple times and reckeck fluid till full.

Trans fluid

the trans pan has 2 access ports one is the drain the larger one is a standpipe. fluid is added through that hole with car level and in the air, also trans has to be at a set temp. the fluid will need to be injected into stand pipe till it runs back out ,that is your setting for fluid level and cannot be done any other way

Where is transmission drain plug 2001 FRD Explorer Sport

2001 Ford Explorer, depending on the engine option, will have either a 4R70W or 5R55E model transmission.Neither trans has a drain or fill plug in the pan or case.Changing the fluid is achieved either by removing all the pan bolts, removing the pan and fluid, then reinstalling and adding fluid through the filler tube,or by a shop that has a total flush machine that usually hooks into the cooler lines.I also change the filter on both transmissions as part of the fluid service. The 4R70W trans has a gasket that is reuseable for the life of the vehicle. The 5R55E pan requires a new gasket if dropping the pan.
