loud knocking internal lower part of engine usually means [ rod knock ] --bad wrist pin -spun bearing -or piston ring]s] --that the worst other can be timing failure --or component failure --you need to isolate the noise and diagnose from there

Where is the oil pump on a 318,1992 dodge ram 1500

Inside the oil pan. Not an easy job. Just a note... Probably not the pump. Probably is the main and rod bearings on the crankshaft. Pull the engine. If really high miles rebuild the engine or replace it. If low miles (like 100,000), replace the crank and bearings. Unless a bearing has spun. You would know because there would be a constant knocking in the engine lower end.

Cylender loaded with gas engine making knoking noise

Maybe a spun bearing or an oil pump not turning any more.

Oil presure gauge went to zero and computer said low oil presure! I then heard a loud knocking coming from engine! I check level of engine oil and its full, what do you think it is?

You didn't state the mileage (would help with diagnosis) But unfortunately you have suffered major engine damage. And that would depend if the knocking you hear is steady at engine idle or only knocks when reving the engine . For some reason the oil pressure did fall to zero, most likely due to bearing wear but again depends on mileage. If knocks constant at idle it is a spun main bearing, if knocks only while reving engine it is a spun connecting rod bearing. Either require an engine overhaul. Or engine swap, Once again it depends on how many miles you have the engine to determine if its wise to rebuild it or replace it. I hope this answers your Q.....

Engine Knocking

Knocking can be caused by

1) pre-detonation on hills due to carbon build up in the engine or too low of an octane gas used.
2) worn or spun out bearings in the camshaft or crankshaft that has connector rods for the pistons attached.
3) bad bearings in a belt driven accessory.

My 1996 gmc jimmy is making loud knocking noise when I start it and shaking and sounds like it will cut off at any moment and the engine check light is on I know I have to take it in but you give me some...

Spun bearing = time for engine rebuilt. Sounds like your engine spun a crank shaft bearing or connecting rod pin is loose or worn out. If your lucky, it may just be a worn distributor gear that is causing your knocking due to bad timing.
Good luck and try not to run the engine with the knocking, it may be a simple fix that will lead to a major problem.
Thank you for using fixya and is the engine oil level right where it suppose to be???

My 2002 honda civic has a steady clicking noise that goes faster on acceleration. The noise is audible though just when idling as well. Any ideas?

Needs more oil or you spun a bearing. Also could knocking lifter. Try some engine restore if your oil is at the proper level. If that doesnt work it will be spun bearing or bad rocker. Have it checked out by local mechanic to be for certain.

1996 Mercury Tracer with sudden loud engine knock

Was the engine overheated when it shut down on the highway? If so, it probably seized due to a stuck bearing, when you restarted the engine, the bearing spun and now you likely hear a connecting rod knocking around in the engine without bearings. This will mean you need a new engine.
If the engine didn't overheat, then it's possible that a valve seat in the cylinder head fell out of place and is now banging around inside a combustion chamber destroying the engine and you will likely need a new one. This was a very common problem on one of the Ford based 4 cylinder engines, it depends which one you have. The major offender was a 2.0 litre.
Another possibility, the timing belt has jumped and the pistons are now hitting the valves, causing the engine to run rough. This will either require a major repair or a new engine.
