Question about 1993 Ford Escort 4 Door

1 Answer

My girlfriend has a 1993 ford escort wagon, 1.9 L SEFI, while driving in city traffic yesterday she noticed the temp guage, while sitting at red lights, would start to show a rise in temperature, almost into the red zone , but while driving would come back down toward normal. after a while the car stalled and would not restart. i checked the coolent level and it appeared to be ok. as best as i could tell ( in other words, there was coolent in the plastic reservoir, it's hard to tell where the hot and cold marks are) it has an electric fan i'm not sure if it was working or not, we had the car towed to the house, even after sitting all night it still won't start. i'm assuming it has a computer, did that shut it down ? and now needs to be reset? it did not appear to me that it got hot enough to fry the engine. any help ? thank you

First was she using the air conditioner at the time. and to reset the computer unhook the battery for about 15 to 20 minutes. try to start it then. if the radio is of the anti-theft variety make sure you know the code and how to enter it before you unhook the battery.

when she uses the a/c there is a second fan that should come on full time, if the fan isn't working it may overheat in that fashion. have you tried to reset the computer ?

first things first, if car doesn,t start get a compession tester to check compression on all 4 clyinder, they sure be the same ,if not possible headgasket

  • avery d sanders Sep 15, 2013

it,s cheaper to buy 20 dollar compression tester to check, than waste money other stuff: you need fuel, spark and compression to start the car, compression reading could be sligthly differ

  • avery d sanders Sep 15, 2013

i mean compression can vary ,but you can have two cylinder with 0 compression and start car

you can,t can,t have two cylinder with 0 compression and start car ????

2001 ford escort zx2 has no heat. Blower OK, AC fine. I did notice the temp guage fluctuates quite a bit. When I select full hot, will get warm (NOT hot) air for about 30 sec. then it blows cold. Could...

It is much more likely you are low on coolant or you have an air bubble trapped in the cooling system. You should bleed the cooling system to get any trapped air out and make sure it is full of coolant.

1993 Ford Escort 1.9L Auto Randomly Stalls

I don't have the solution, but I have the same exact problem on my 1991 Escort 1.9L with auto with 120K miles. I replaced the IAC with no difference. In fact I unplugged it, and still had the random stalling. Also disconnected the EGR vacuum line...still stalled randomly. After it stalls it always starts right back up again. Sometimes it will act as if it's going to stall, but comes back to normal idle. Park or Drive makes no difference. Acceleration and all normal driving is fine. The next thing I was going to try is hooking up a timing light and watch to see if the timing light stops flashing as it's stalling, and/or hooking up a fuel pressure gauge somehow, to the fuel rail, to see if the pressure drops when figure out if its ignition or fuel related.
