Hi! The fuel switch could be faulty causing the car not to start. You may want to have the fuel switch checked first as a first course of action. Hope this helps and thank you for using FixYa!

A faulty regulator can cause this too.

SOURCE: started car running on petrol for 5 minutes with

could be number of problems but often this is caused by valve on the inlet manifold which is electricaly operated and then it allows the gas in but it is also vacumn sensitive so a perished rubber pipe could cause it not to sense the vacumn .best advice without seeing it is to visit a mechanic that is conversant with LPG conversion

I have a BF MKII SERIES Ford Falcon Sedan which has a Factory fitted LPG motor. It backfires when I start the vehicle. Please let me know if it can be fixed.?

A lean mixture is causing this fault, It is important to have this repaired. if lean only on start not a big fault. if lean on running under load it will burn exhaust valves and top of pistons.

I have a dual tank of petrol and LPG. I had the conversion done for about 5 to 10 years. Since last year I have this problem of backfiring. The last one the air filter cover cracked, the brackets are gone....

the gas converter has probably corroded inside and is not working like it should
They do not last forever so I would suggest that you take the vehicle to an accredited gas shop and have the gas section checked out.

Hi the other day i started the toyota up after finishing work it backfired now it wont run on lpg. It runs on petrol but wont on LPG any ideas would be great.

the fact that it runs on fuel means that the electronics of the vehicle are all operational. The problem is the fuel selection process for he LPG. The converter for the lpg is prone to corrosion and failures internally so I would suggest that you have an accredited Auito gas specialist look at the gas system

Ignition timing mitsubishi triton 2003 3.0L GLX

Depending if it is backfiring out carb or out exhaust will tell you if the time is off. The carb backfire is a sure sign the timing is off. A valve is not completely sealed off before ignition and it explodes before sealing off the chamber. This also could mean a burnt valve as well.
AN exhaust pipe backfire could be a few things. Raw fuel in muffler that ignites from the heat. Over rich mixture, timing, jump timing belt, clogged catalyst, etc.
Now your vehicle runs on LPG which actually is a good thing. Much cheaper then gasoline fuel. I am not familiar with LPG carburation methods, but backfires are pretty basic. Carb or exhaust fire, timing is a good direction and carb adjustment. I would do a compression test also. Check for a leak that is not allowing a full burn of the fuel in the chamber. Check vacuum lines also.
If Timing the vehicle requires a short between 2 points, it must be done to show correctly the proper setting without advancing the timing. As long as the distributor has not been removed and placed a tooth off which is rare, but jumped timing belts will set a tooth off occasionally. Do a compression test, it will let you know your engines condition accurately.

LPG Converted Rodeo Backfires

Backfiring in this case is caused by a lean air/fuel mixture, so I would suggest you richen up the gas supply by either increasing the pressure or the volume of gas being delivered to the engine.

Im wanting to convert my 2002 V6 2.0 X type to lpg,but have been given lots of different stories regarding Valve seat recession.Anybody help?

You have been given false information, in old cars that were not designed to run on unleaded fuel then yes, but your car was designed to run specifically on unleaded fuel and will run just fine and even more emmisions free on LPG gas, the only draw back to LPG is the size and location of the fuel tank required to use LPG as your exclusive source of fuel. being that it is a car you will looses storage space in your trunk area and the oter draw back depending on where you live is availability of filling staations... but absolutely no internal engine concerns.

Why did my airfilter box explode? A Landrover Disco.

If an inlet valve stuck or has a crack - it may ignite the rest of the gas/air mix - causng a backfire into the airbox.

This may be temporary or a permanent- recurring problem. Only by taking the head off can you check valve conditions and that all springs and guides are good.

This is the most likely cause - pre-ignition from a slow to close valve.

LPG not working?

You will have to recheck that all the wires were reinstaled. The noise is the fuel pump. The lpg system has its own fuses so you will have to check them also. The only thing you touched was the battery so the problem is there somewhere..Earth wire is also important just double check all the things you undid.Let me know how you go
