Question about 1994 Land Rover Discovery

Cummins diesel start up engine ok after a few seconds the water starts blow out of rad cap seems to build up pressure. thanks

Coolant system builds pressure


Dear sir

I think there is something too much tight the cap of coolant box that's why inside the box pressure build.
Kindly use open air type cap to remove moisture inside

Hello i have a 1994 gmc 6,5 diesel turbo and under load is overheating i replace fan clutch, thermostat and when remove the water pump the driver side of the block was dry any idea


Sounds like it might be blowing gases into the water jacket. Blown head gasket?
I would fill system up, start engine with rad cap closed. Rev up COLD engine and then check the upper rad hose for pressure. Squeeze it. If it seems to have pressure already, its likely head gasket. Put a towel over rad cap and take it off slowly, listen for pressure release while still cold engine. (Bad sign) Then wait for it to warm up and themostat to open, rev the engine and look for bubbles in the flow of coolant which burst with a little puff of steam or smoke. If neither of these happens, that is a good sign of not being head gasket. But it may be occuring only at high pressure, "under load". Dont know how much load that means..

Ok i got a 2004 chevy monte carlo and it seems to be over heating i changed the thermostate out and i dont believe its the water pump because its not leakn around the seal and i noticed its only geting hot...


YOU SHOULD FLUSH ENGINE BLOCK BEFORE INSTALLING NEW THERMOSTAT.YOU NEED RADIATOR FLUSHED AND ENGINE BLOCK FLUSHED.ALSO REPLACE THE RADIATOR PRESSURE CAP.

Over heating.Replaced thermostat using a 192,replaced water pump,too.The temp gauge on dash, cools down in idle speed, accelerates while in D...no evident leaks yet loses coolant. NO BLOW BY, WHITE EXHAUST...


Have you pressure tested your rad cap? It may not be holding the proper pressure. Also, is the rad in good shape? Are the rad fins in good shape & is the coolant in the system circulating properly. It is possible the new water pump impellor is slipping. When engine is cool, take rad cap off & start the engine. Check for coolant circulation in the rad when thermostat opens. Is it flowing freely without restriction? Top off the coolant again , you may have a vapor lock. Hope this helps. Good luck!

the head gaskets are blown you can believe that anytime on any engine gas or deisel that you get oil in the radiator and there water/ antifreeze in the oil pan the gaskets and or cylinder heads are bad

How do i add coolent to the Rad, when there is no rad cap.


if the rad has no cap then there should be an external expansion tank, with a small water pipe running to the rad, this circulates the water, make sure you dont get confused with the windsheild washer tank, may sound silly but has been done lots of time!

Running fine, then blew lots of white smoke that smelled like diesel, cut off and won't start again. Dee


If this is a gas engine You have probably blown a head gasket. If its a diesel engine of later years 03 or later you probably have an injector failure and or a injector pump failure. I hope this helps.

Oil in coolant only


You might have a blown head gasket that is allowing one of your oil galleries in the engine to mix engine oil with the coolant after the oil pressure gets to a certain point. You might also have a cracked head causing the same type of problem.
